Certainly, for me I'd say so. Not so much temperature than relative humidity. Heavy and lethargic, just felt generally stifled yesterday. Then went into AF and needed Cardioversion.
It was very much a case of feeling anxious/drained and then it hit.
You had a cardioversion as soon as you went into AF ?? You are lucky, I’ve been in permanent AF since January and only just got my appointment for a cardioversion next Wednesday. I agree with you about the heat and anxiety because I’ve been feeling a lot worse over the last few days. Val
I think it's probably because my BP drops and even walking up the stairs makes me feel on the verge of collapse..... the times I have tried to ignore it its only got worse and resulted in me going into hospital anyway
Stay well hydrated and keep in the shade if you can't stand the heat. Where are you off to ?
When I was younger in the early days of AF ...40s/50s ..i could stand the heat ( apart from when I was on Amiodarone when the sun was a no no) but now in my 70s I have to sit in the shade in high summer.
I'm off on holiday too next week ...staying in UK...Winchester and then Somerset staying in lovely old Inns in spacious rooms with high ceilings so hopefully will be a bit cooler.
South of France....now you can float around looking glamourous in drifty dresses, floppy hat and shades sipping iced cocktails...there must be some shade somewhere! Enjoy your holiday and i would reiterate...lots and lots to drink even if you don't feel particularly thirsty.
Hi jaqshell, just seen your thread- how are you feeling today?
Yes I find the heat affects me badly, I long for cool weather! Regarding the anxiety, I think the heart tends to beat faster / work harder when it’s hot, and a raised heartbeat can actually cause a feeling of non specific anxiety. So that might be part of what you’re experiencing?
I feel for you heading off on holiday where you can’t avoid the heat so easily. You said there’s no air con where you’re staying? If I were you, I’d take a plug in fan (with plug adapter!) or if you’re flying, you could even buy one there - and if you have access to a freezer, buy lots of ice and put it in bowls in front of the fan to create the air con effect in your apartment
Hope that when you’re out and about, if you’re well equipped with a handheld fan, wide brimmed hat, loose clothes and finding the shade (and tracking down any air con places to sit!) you’ll be ok and manage to enjoy it. Do let us know how you get on
Thank you so much for your advice Jane I also now realize I was very dehydrated and need to drink more water than normal, silly of me I know. I,m going to France to visit my niece and been told its in the 30, s which last year I would of relished, I will use your useful advice and let you know how I get on. Thanks again
I am sure that the hot weather is affecting my AF. I feel very out of sorts and very slow moving. It was 101.8 Fahrenheit in the shade today - even my dogs were affected.
I am afraid you will have to adopt a continental lifestyle. Rise early about 6am is the coolest part of the day and have a light breakfast. If you are near a beach set yourself up with an easy beach chair, umbrella and awning and relax in the sea. Hopefully you might have access to a pool which will make life a little easier.
When it starts getting hot , pack up and store your gear. Find an air conditioned shopping centre or café and a cooling drink. Wander round the freezer section if you are in a shop. Have a very light lunch, a cool shower and find a shady spot with a bit of breeze if you are lucky. Keep hydrated.
When the heat starts to build have a good siesta for two/ three/four hours. Forget the mad dogs and English men out in the mid day sun, rest, relax and chill. If you are in Spain you will find the locals don't even think of going out until about 9.30pm. and eat at about 10.00pm and tend to eat fish or meat salad (not too many carbs to burn).
They drink fresh orange and casera or summer wine (mix of wine and casera), along with water, Some enjoy a beer. They then go for a walk along the promenade, to take advantage of any sea breezes and to help their food go down.
Finally off to bed as the night cools, ready for a pleasant 4 hour sleep and an early start again. A very different way of life!
If you get the chance next year go out in October when the crowds have gone, the prices of meals out have dropped by about a third and the weather is very pleasant
