Covid, pacemaker and prosthetic mitral valve

I hope this will help to reassure many. I have a pacemaker with av node ablation, prosthetic mitral valve and continuing, although not felt, af. Medication is warfarin alone. Christmas has been spent in South Africa with my family, on Boxing Day, 5 of us, including myself tested positive for Covid. We isolated together, heeding doctors advice which was. Firstly, monitor morning and evening, temperature. Keep an oxymetre in the house, monitor oxygen levels morning and evening. Keep well hydrated. Use paracetamol when needed. We had all, prior to this taken probiotics, extra vitamin D, C, zinc and B12. At no time did any of us get a temperature or our oxygen levels fall. I am not saying it was a breeze, but we have all popped out the other side and are well. Some with residual slight cough, rearend not quite behaving, a little tired but nothing that we cannot cope with.

My reason for writing this is please do not be fearful, you can go through this, it is not pleasant, but you can do this, don't be frightened. I am 71 years of age.

Thank you so much for posting this. Whilst none of us know what effect the virus may have on us, as a family we have also been taking precautions and the supplements you mention. So pleased you all weathered the storm.

Nothing wrong with wafarin provided you check your INR regularly. It's much cheaper than the other drugs and proven over a long period too.

Warfarin if used because of prosthetic valve, there is no option For years I have used Roche CoaguChek, calibrated every year, it has given me independent legs, especially when travelling.

Yes I have the roche coag check meter , so if one does have one, wafarin is the best option. Safer than the new blood thinners
