Anti-inflammatories

Hi,

I have been suffering over the past 6 weeks with Epididytisis and have had a course of antibiotics as well as an ultrasound (that was clear). When I spoke to a GP he was going to prescribe some anti inflammatory medication but soon realised he couldn’t as I’m taking Apixaban. I’m also taking Sotalol. He has said I can have paracetamol for the pain, but today the pain has been quite bad.

What do others take for chronic pain?

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,I am taking Warfarin which puts me in the same position as yourself. I am prescribed Cocodomol 30/500 ( only available on prescription). For the most part it works well and I have no side effects.

The pain I use CoCodomol for is osteoarthritis in the shoulders and as and when required for right Si joint pain.

I stick to Paracetamol and am on Apixaban. I also use natural herbal supplements such Astragalus and Rerservatrol as anti-inflammatories and I’ve had no problems.

Hi stucco - the best thing I’ve found for pain is solpadine codine/paracetamol. You have to buy it over the counter at the chemist but it gets rid of the pain and it can be taken with apixaban.

Sorry you are in pain. I'm on Apixaban too,and recently fell badly injuring my coccyx( tail bone)I was told I can take paracetamol and co codamol.

My gp also prescribed ibuprofen gel at 10% to apply.

You might check the above out .

Best wishes xx

I had polymyalgia rheumatica for nearly four years. It is an auto-immune condition, which causes intense pain due to inflammation of muscles. The condition was treated with the anti-inflammatory drug prednisolone. For the whole time I also took an AntiCoagulant, Rivaroxaban for the first 12 days, and Warfarin since then.I was initially prescribed co-codamol until the diagnosis of polymyalgia was confirmed.

How awful for you Stuart. I was prescribed Co-codamol 30/500 for back pain - there are stronger opioids available but your GP needs to be convinced of their need.

I hope you can get relief from the pain somehow.

I use apixaban and live in a place where medical cannabis is legal. I have been dealing with a pain issue which has interrupted my ability to get to sleep. Cannabis works nicely in reducing both pain and anxiety.

Hi Stucoo--Like yourself I cannot take anti-inflammatories as I take Apixaban. Like others here I have co-codamol 30/500 (that's 30 mg codeine phosphate and 500 mg paracetamol.) You will not be able to buy that strength of co-codamol over the counter. Unfortunately the codeine makes me feel sick and if I take two tablets together I often am sick. But I Ok'd it with my GP so now I take 1co-cod and 1 paracetamol, together they contain 1000mg of paracetamol-the MAX you can take at any one time, and I take mine every 6 hours, for back and neck pain, but most days I don't need it. Ask your doc and see if he will give you prescription co-codamol. I was told I could use Ibuprofen gel on my hands( arthritis) for a few days only. Best of luck in overcoming the pain.

Thanks for all your replies. The pain has eased a little, so I’m going to see how it goes and go back to the doctor if required
