All very different.

I had a Cryoablation September 2019. 8 weeks ago tomorrow I had an RF ablation. Didn’t know I was having a RF until hour before procedure. I assumed recovery from RF would be same.ish as Cryo. Oh how wrong I was from the minute I came too in recovery. It has all been so very different. I have read AFA info sheet again.....several times!

Prior to Cryo I suffered terribly with Ectopics, was very symptomatic and felt quite ill at times. They were worse than the Afib. From the word go after Cryo the ectopics were a lot better and virtually stopped altogether several months later and didn’t feel ill with the odd ones. The Afib was better in that episodes didn’t last as long or as severe , 9-12 hours instead of 15-50+ hours but they had became more frequent so it was decided on a second ablation.

For the last few weeks I have been having more noticeable ectopics each day for 2-4 seconds each time and then a sharp headache straight after, like a tension one with a tight band around my head. It eases to more like a dull ache and can last for a time.

Does anyone know if the return of more frequent ectopics could be because the heart has been in trauma and hopefully with more time diminish again as the healing process continues? or could it be, again due to the trauma, my heart is trying to go into Afib as it heals but abalation is obviously working and stopping it happening? Do have to pee sometimes when it happens but not every time.

Apart from all this I am feeling quite well.

Thank you all and stay safe.

Hugs

Still quite early days Frances but why not call your arrhythmia nurse if you are worried.

Thanks Bob. Not worried. Just wanting to know if the trauma can disturb things from previous ablation or as new trauma to cause these ectopics before healings finished this time and then hopefully back to where I was before RF with the ectopics. xxx

The report from my RF ablation refers to ‘pesky ectopics’ making burning difficult, presumably caused by the irritation of my heart. So your theory sounds reasonable 💜

Thank you Buffafly. Apparently I went into Afib as they were about to start and tried 4 times to avert without success. Again apparently the burning wasn’t an issue and averted me with success straight afterwards. The ectopics were hardly there before and only have been since which is why I wondered if trauma induced. I had a lot of bumps and arrhythmias after my RF ablation. They gradually reduced and after 5 months disappeared. I was never sure what type they were but annoying! That was 2013/14 and I am still free of AF and all arrhythmias. Good luck 🍀

Thank you lallym. It was just a shock at first that RF recovery had been so very different (for me) from Cryo. Luckily it’s only ectopics and headache. No Afib! X

I had Cryo April 2017 which was unsuccessful. RF done Nov 2017. Took about 5 months to settle. Lots of ectopic and some AF. Since April 2018 I gave had one short AF episode and ectopics reduced drastically in frequency. I gave up alcohol which seems to have helped. I feel very well. Takes a while for the heart to recover from the trauma.

Best of luck

Thank you Jack. I don’t drink and have quite a healthy diet but in my 16/17 year Afib journey I’ve never found a trigger. It’s like Afib stretches it’s legs whenever it feels like. Only consistent thing was it was always (except twice) nocturnal Afib . X

Hello Jack,Did you continue with medication after the RF ablation ?

Thank you all for your words. What had been niggling me was had the RF undone some of the good of the Cryo from having those awful symptomatic ectopics down to virtually nothing. Then when I got my sensible head 🙄 on I realised RF on its own was trauma to the heart and regardless of my previous cryo, RF needed it’s own healing period and the possible disturbances that may happen.
