morning all Had my pre op yesterday for my 2nd ablation. 1st cryo sept 2021. Didn’t do the job so this time prof osman at Coventry is gonna do the Rf type. What’s your personal times in lab having a Rf type ? 3hrs ?

cheers

My understanding is that if it is just a touch up after the cryo-ablation and the area is known, then about 1-3 hours I think might be a reasonable guesstimate.

I couldn’t have cryo because of the size and shape of my PV veins and it was nearly 10 years ago and the technology not nearly as good or reliable so both mine were over 7 hours. My guess that was about the limit of the staff concentration anyways.

thanks. Ah ok. So they don’t make full sets of burns round the pv again then ?

My understanding is that cryo balloon can ‘miss’ areas so the follow up is get to those missed areas with more accuracy and/or to tackle any other reachable areas which have been identified as producing rogue pathways. I’m not an expert so someone please correct me if I got that wrong.

The "Fire and Ice" trial showed that modern Cryo equally effective as RF for a first afib ablation. Both often fail to make a full burn set, therefore the high number of repeat ablations. Good luck with your touch up.

I can’t add anything to the well informed comments above, but just wanted to wish you a successful procedure - in the end we put our trust in those remarkable medics who have made all this possible - you’ll be fine 😊

Are you having GA for this one? That would be normal from my experience so you may be out of it for longer. I seem to remember about 4.5 hours for one of mine but how long of that was working I'm not sure.

Well there is sedation and sedation. When I had my last angiogram and PM fitment I had sedation but lost a good 3/4 hour along the way. Dont remember the angiogram at all.

I had a second ablation last June by RF, used mild sedation it took about an hour with about 15 mins wiring up. Wasn’t as unpleasant as the first and didn’t really feel a thing. All the best !

cheers. Hope mine goes that way. The first cryo one hurt a fair bit at times to be honest but nothing unbearable your 2nd one a success ?

I get the odd 2-3 second blip of irregular beat but yes my situation is by far better the second time around. I think you will feel a lot better after your second procedure. Also I was up and about after a couple of days, where as the first procedure took me weeks to recover. So yes I think you will be pleased. Let us know how you get on. 👍
