Feeling very anxious

Having my 2nd ablation on Monday. This time it is an RF ablation to hopefully get to the areas the cryo couldn't reach nearly 3 years ago. I said at the time I would have another but feeling scared and very anxious. Bella :(

Natural reaction to the unknown but really nothing much to worry about. Don't forget to rest for a couple of weeks afterwards.

Thank you Bob. Did you have RF all three times? Take care :)

Hi Bella, it's normal to feel a little anxious before an ablation. I was more anxious having my third one than the other two. Daughter no 2 kept saying I don't think you should have another one and I thought to myself is this a premonition! I was telephoned on the Friday and asked to come in on the following Wednesday, so didn't have that much time to dither. After that third one my recovery was almost immediate whereas the others had taken several weeks before I felt better.

You will be fine, but no matter what you're told here that little niggle will stay. Afterwards you'll be saying, what was I worried about.

Best wishes.

Jean

Thank you Jean. Are you 100% ok now? I am sure you are right and I will wonder what I was worried about. Did you have GA or sedation? Keep well :) Bella

Hi Bella - I had sedation for the first two and a general anaesthetic for the third. Which are you having?

Yes, having general anaesthetic, like last time.

It is totally understandable to be apprehensive and I bet your brain is doing overtime.

Be comforted that an RF ablation is routine an thousands are carried out safely every year.

The reason your EP is doing this is to make you feel better.

The success rate is high and if all goes to plan your quality of life will be better.

Do take Bob’s advice and ensure you rest well afterwards and only resume normal work and exercise when your body allows this may well be after a few weeks.

Best wishes for Monday.

Thank you Pete, my EP did say they do 1000 ablations each year at the heart centre. I know I am over thinking now which I shouldn't. I have 2 weeks off work which I had last time. Take care :)

Bit of black humour.................

You may or may not be aware that I have had 7 ablations.

The last one was postponed by 4 weeks back in August because I had an allergic to some steroid tablets they gave me for my skin allergy problems.

It was the Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist who made the decision to postpone as it was too dangerous for me on that occasion.

Whilst I was sitting in the bed waiting for the final decision to cancel, my EP Consultant came to me and said "I am disappointed as I wanted to use some new equipment on you but I have to be guided by the anaesthetist as they kill many more patients than we do"

That was reassuring.

I had the procedure which took just under 7 hours under GA in late in August and I have been well ever since and am here to tell the tale.

Hi Bella I am down for a 3rd ablation this year I think its normal to feel a bit anxious as you know exactly what coming ignorance is bliss sometimes! I had sedation and then a GA this year not sure what the third will be as I havent got another EP sorted have to go to England for my next one anyway, but recovery was much qucker second time around, can anyone reccomend a good EP or centre in England its all very complicated and I read on here they should have carried out at lesst 200 per year! All the best for Monday and let us know how you get on.

Best wishes Ingrid

Thank you Ingrid, I think you are right. I am having mine at the St Barts Heart Centre which I believe is a centre of Excellence so may be a good place to have yours. They do 1000 a year! Where are you coming from? Did ablation 1 and 2 help? Take care.

Bella :)

Barts is a centre of excellence. You could not be in better hands. My EP came from there a year ago and I have the greatest of respect for him.

They will definitely be using state of the art technology.

Very best wishes for a successful outcome.

Wishing you the best I had my first ablation 6 days ago and was so scared and I have heard that from so many but I was reassured that I would be ok. And I was. Now I am following the advice from this wonderful supportive site to rest. And I am doing good. So try not to stress too much

Thank you and so pleased you are doing ok. Did you have sedation or GA and RF or cryo ablation? Bella

Not sure I had any of these. The first time I went to AnE I stayed in for a few nights and was eventually given electricity to put my heart rhythm back, since then it has just been drugs and I’ve not even stayed in. As I’ve said before, I went 18 months with nothing but recently, it gone AWOL.

I had general anesthesia and RF for aflutter. EP could not get my heart in afib. So he only ablated the aflutter. Plan to do another ablation if I go into afib again. Thank you
