My husband has been on Eliquis 5 mg. for over 5 years. His arms have be discolored by the bruising. After a Rheumatologist put him on Celebrex for one month, he had bloody urine for 12 hours. I had him stop the Eliquis.
Has anyone been switched to 2.5mg without any trouble? The Celebrex works well for his arthritis.

Hi Butkie and welcome to the forum. I am not medically trained but I would be very, very nervous about stopping the anticoagulant (Eliquis). Your hubby will be seriously exposed to the risk of having a life changing stroke which could be devastating to both him and the family. I appreciate that living with arthritis can be very difficult too but it’s a case of deciding what’s best to do for him and that means talking to the doctors to investigate the options......
Thanks for your reply: We did reduce the Eliquis to 2.5 mg. We do have an appointment with the urology this week. I am trying to find out if anyone is taking Celebrex with the Eliquis.
I’m guessing you are from the US. Here in the UK, we encourage folks having problems with their medication to seek advice from their pharmacist to make sure they are compatible. Hope all goes well with your urology appointment...
The rheumatologist knew the risks, but still wanted him to try the celebrex. After I called her, she recommended the Tylenol 2xday (which does not work very well). May have to supplement with CBD tincture.
We did stop the Celebrex yesterday. The Urologist that is checking my husband for the bleeding, mentioned that Celebrex is bad on the kidneys. We will see our primary doctor in a few days. It is hard to believe that EVERYONE should be on the same dose and that there is not a test like the INR when that is done for Coumadin.
I will be seeing our cardiologist next week. I would like to know if anyone on this site has lowered their eliquis from 5mg. to 2 1/2mg.? Age is one factor, but he doesn't have the other 2 factors.
