Hi, everyone, quick question please. I ache everywhere and I do believe I may have gout. So I'm trying to cut down my uric acid levels and one of the things I've read on the topic is the benefit of regularly taking Apple Cider vinegar (apparently 'with mother' is important!) not just for gout but for a multitude of reasons. However I'm on Apixaban for PAF, so does anyone know if this vinegar is compatible with this blood thinner? I know I have to cut down on stuff with purines like tomatoes, peppers etc., which as a veggie is restricting even more favourite things from my diet... why is it always on things I love? I'd be grateful for any advice thanks. In the meantime, a pox on afib... but above all, stay safe 🤗
Cider vinegar: Hi, everyone, quick... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Cider vinegar
Cider vinegar is pretty wild stuff to take from my experience. I have a bottle here now. Shake well to distribute the mother and take a table spoon in a glass of warm water. Add honey if you want but you will still resemble a bulldog who swallowed a wasp for five minutes aferwards.
I thought the reason many people took DOACs rather than warfarin like I do was that there were NO dietary restrictions.
Hi Chris
I'm on Riveroxaban for AF. Earlier this year I decided to embark on a daily intake of cider vinegar for some specific reason - which escapes me now - and ordered 2 bottles of Aspall raw apple cyder vinegar with my online groceries. I didn't notice, on ordering, that the cider was "with honey" and when it arrived and I saw it contained 35% honey I was cross with myself - far too much sugar. However I tried it to make a french dressing for a salad and was delighted; it was delicious. It was the best dressing I had ever made; I am normally very stingy with adding sugar to anything. So I recommend it highly if sugar is not an issue for you and it helps you stick with the diet. It is very palatable in water as a drink, warm or cold. Good luck.
I'm on warfarin and have a salad dressing most days that I make up with olive oil and cider vinegar (plus mother) with a dash of balsamic vinegar. So I get through quite a bit of the stuff and it has no impact on my INR. And it's very tasty,
I make my own coleslaw and add acv and maple syrup to mayo for a tasty dressing.
Like the sound of this too, Balsamic vinegar is another big favourite of mine....thanks.
Hi,Last year I received a great tip on here for gout. I get attacks every so often and drigs like tipuric had stopped working. The tip was to take a 1/2 ping glass of Montmorency Cherry juice in the mornings - yuo get it from Holland and Barrett or similar stores. I was so sore that I bought the juice straight away. On the third morning, the gout had completely cleared - using no other meds and I haven't had an attack since. I shared to tip with a couple of people I know who also suffer and they have had the same benefit. I've just discovered that H&B have recalled their 'own brand' juice but haven't had an explanation yet. I have a good supply in my pantry. I recommend that you try this juice for a few days and hope that you get relief.
Kind regards,
Tom
Thank you so much or your information . I’m a 55yo woman who is asthmatic and had MI 18 months ago. My gp’s thoughts were - what next? We do have a good relationship! Interesting to hear your comments on a particular cherry juice as I’ve been taking allopurinol 100mg - doubled to 200mg and am still having breakthrough acute pain (scaled 1-10 was starting at a 7 and progressing to omg kill me now!) they have recently suggested a different drug but that has to be prescribed by a specialist. How long will that that with Covid? The facts about diet are useful too - have been reading everything I can lay my hands on!Best wishes
Hi BH19,
You are welcome.
Be sure to give the Cherry juice a try. I take a full shot every morning in a glass of water and 'touch wood' I have not had any gout symptoms in two+ years and I have been off tablets the whole time. In fact my gouty joints feel normal. After 3 mornings of taking the juice my pain was completely cleared and has stayed away ever since. H&B sometime sell the juice in their cent sale and I buy 6 bottles at a time.
All the best with it
I've been on Apixaban for more than 2 years. I've been taking Cider Vinegar for more than 5 years. Reason sports injuries were causing arthritic spurs. Cider vinegar is supposed to help reduce the effects.Arthritis is managed and I have no known issues taking both, along with Turmeric.
Do not take vinegar neat. I mix a glug with water or diluted fruit juice. Followed by a glass of just water. Otherwise you'll have no teeth left.
I purchase mine from Devon in 5 litre container saves on postage and lasts about a year.
I take them in capsule form Holland and Barrett) I had heard to avoid some supplements, but not that one .... yet! (I’m on Apixaban)
Yes it is! I take it for arthritis too! Don’t know how I’m going to manage the winter without my trusty echinacea! I was also taking turmeric for the same reason! 🤨🤨
If you suspect gout then you should have your level of uric acid tested by your GP. If levels are high then they need to be addressed as this can lead to kidney damage not just pain. My husband had attacks of gout many years ago and has been treated with Allopurinol since.
Hi, as I'm on Apixaban which requires blood tests every so often to check kidney function I think uric acid might be checked? Having a blood test very soon so I will certainly ask....thanks.
You might want to sip your ACV drink through a straw followed by a cleansing swig of water to reduce acidic damage to your tooth enamel.
Yes good idea! Thx
