Edoxaban..... any diet restrictions?

Hello Everybody......friends and new members!

I have been taking Edoxaban since March (no more Warfarin coz of COVID and lockdown), and it just occurred to me, that this Winter/Xmas, I can eat as many sprouts, as I want without worrying about INR levels!! A small thing, but when you have a constant diet of restrictions and deprivation, little things make you happy!!!

But what about Cranberry?.....I thought I read somewhere that that was still on the banned list?

Keep safe everybody.

To the best of my knowledge there are no dietary restrictions with any of the DOACS as they work on a different part of the clotting process.

That said I thought it a well known Miracle of Christmas that INR always remained stable over the period regardless of diet.

Ha Ha! mine never did, Bob!

I used to get told off at the first test after the festive period....

Hope you are well. Uut walking again at Fremington during lockdown?

Grapefruit is to be avoided depending on the drug grapefruit can either increase or decrease the action of the drug.

Oh how I envy you. I am the other way round, having failed on all of the DOAC’s. I am now on Warfarin and I am struggling to get my INR stable.

My aim is to try and keep my dose as low as possible to try and avoid yet another intolerance.

As far as I know there are no food restrictions on the DOAC’s.

I wrote an article called "Don't stop eating your greens" for the AF magazine, when I was on warfarin. I managed to keep my INR's fairly stable, but maybe I was just fortunate?

If I can find it I will ping it over to you.

That would be really helpful if you can find it. Thank you. I can’t find a definitive food list for vitamin K. I know consistency is the important thing, but I decreased my vit K in the hope of being able to reduce my warfarin dose, but my INR went down! I guess it’s early days. It was last resort as I have always refused warfarin and I still would if I had any choice.

Hi WB hope you’re well. I’ve been on Apixaban for 5 years with no dietary warnings.

Can’t have grapefruit because I take simvastatin - that may be the connection people are referring to - which I thought was widely known?

All the best!

Keep well and safe!

I've never restricted the foods I have on warfarin in the 10+ years I've been on it. You just need to make sure you have a steady intake of Vit K. I do this by supplementing with Vit K2 and get very steady INR's.

Nevertheless I restrict the number of sprouts I have at Xmas, but that's for other reasons...😁
