It’s part of the human condition.

RSA refers to the naturally occurring variability in the length of time between heart beats that is coordinated with the respiratory cycle, and often used as an index of parasympathetic control of heart rate.

From: Reference Module in Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Psychology, 2017

Research Heart Rate Variability - HRV - which is used as a measure of vagal tone. For my sex, age, health conditions and fitness I would consider a daily HRV average of 30-35 reasonable. Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well so rested a lot and my HRV was 16. If you are in AF your HRV will be all over the place.

Good explanation of HRV here heartmath.com/science/

My husband has it occasionally - I sent off his Kardia trace for analysis just to get it confirmed - normal and harmless.

Had to look up Dr Google but RSA is normal and benign so don't worry about it.

My daughter has it, had it checked out and told there wasn’t a problem.

Yeag tell me about it mate I still get the flops in my chest bloody pain in the arse lol

As others have said, Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia is the normal rhythm of the heart. You can detect it yourself by measuring pulse rate during inspiration and expiration.

As a possibly unhelpful aside, 30 years ago, I noticed myself that patients who had had ischemia where there was significant damage to the heart muscle had much less heart rate variability.

Just to add - the Heart Math page has some truth in it but you have to realise it is a sales pitch.

ETA again - Also it is important to note that the Heart Math page and some others that discuss Heart Rate Variability concern the heart's response to exercise and rest and how this is reflected in heart rate variability. Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia just relates to normal resting heart rhythm.
