Interesting article here, as when i usually lie down and feel a flutter in my heart and than i sit up and burp and than the flutter goes away and just couldn't get round why that was, has anyone else experienced this or know why this happens?

I’m not sure what is so interesting as it basically says - we note this happens but haven’t a clue as to the mechanism or why it happens.

If you search on this forum you would see that a number of people would associate problems with eating, burping and acid reflux with arrythmias, obviously that is anectodal and cannot be verified as in a clinical study but I don’t think it so rare as is implied or restricted to males in a certain age range.

Just one point - I take cholingergic drugs ie:- enhancing PNS

FYI - Cholinergic drugs enhance the effects of acetylcholine, increasing the actions of the parasympathetic nervous system. Anticholinergic drugs block effects of acetylcholine, reducing parasympathetic actions and increasing sympathetic ones. Cholinergic drugs are used to treat glaucoma and myasthenia gravis.

for Myasthenia and my experience has been that since I have been taking them my BP has stabilised and I have far fewer episodes of tachycardia - which seems somewhat counter-intuitive - but that’s my experience.

Now they were talking about anti-cholingergic drugs - but didn’t explain the reasoning for believing they would be helpful.

What is of interest to me is that there is a lack of considering the Gut-Brain axis and the Microbiome which I suspect is of some relevance.

Thank you. For some years now, I find myself occasionally burping very loud, not sure what the cause is.

I don't think that any of this is in any way unusual. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence from our members connecting digestive issues with their heart problems as CD mentions in her excellent post. Let be honest here, there is SO much we don't know about arrhythmias in general and AF in particular that nothing surprises me these days.

Happens to me regularly I put it down to trapped wind & reflux.

The question is why are you getting acid reflux & burping - it’s a symptom that there is something wrong or out of place - because you shouldn’t be.

I suffer from these digestive trapped wind problems just like you do and find relief in the same way. Over the time between my episodes my stomach gradually settles and i congratulate myself only to be pushed back again when the next episode comes as it did a week ago. I find I have to use Gaviscon and sleep at 45 degree angle until it settles again. It always reminds me of the film The Elephant Man where he longs to sleep lying flat but cannot because he might suffocate - I get a similar feeling 😯

That made me smile 😃 I had visions of the elephant man lying in his bed with a bottle of Gaviscon in his hand. I have my Rennies at the ready, & most nights have to resort to them 😖. I purchased wedge pillow recently , but I cannot get on with it.

Have you ever tried Bisodol tablets instead of Rennies ? I find them much more effective.

They may not suit every one but they work very well for me.

Thanks for your reply so can I ask if you lie fully flat on your back you can feel your heart flutter than relived by sitting up and burping?

Absolutely it always works and as I have a small hiatus hernia I think it is caused by this pressing on my heart and irritating it. This of course makes me panic and think I am starting another AF episode.

I get that a lot. More so if I have a run of ectopic beats. It's always happened and it's very odd.

Can’t get my head round why that happens

Hi every time I have an episode of AF I get the most horrendous burping and wind which lasts until my heart gets back to normal. I have hiatus hernia, acid reflux and digestive problems. It seems to me that in some way this is all related, especially as we all seem to get it. All the best.
