Morning. Got my 1st appointment at the cardiologist dept Coventry hospital

In January after having Af episodes on and off for about 8 years.

Just want to talk to someone about my option and maybe ablation

The consultant is dr Sandeep panikker. Has anyone else seen this consultant?

I was recommended mr osman at Coventry

Cheers

Hello Len.

I can't comment on Cov hospital but it's time to see a cardio for sure after 8 years. I hope you are on anticoagulants ?

If you decide to go down the ablation route you will need to be referred to see an EP. I'm sure the cardio will explain all the treatment options and what might work best for you.

Cheers Paul. No anti coagulation I’m afraid. Twice I’ve been told my stroke risk is too low ? If I have an attack I take 2.5 bisoprolol and 50mg flecanide and it goes in a couple of hours. Mine always happen after a few beers / wines. So I know the cause I think

No worries Len. At least you know the trigger and what to avoid. I certainly think though I would discuss your stroke risk with your cardio. Better to play safe than be sorry ;-)

Good luck.

Had you thought of avoiding alcohol? A lot easier, healthier and safer than an ablation especially if you have such short and easily terminated episodes. Just a thought to add to whatever your EP advises......

I know it makes sense. But I enjoy a beer at the weekend. There are few things in life nowadays that I enjoy as much. I work 65 hours a week and a few beers on a Saturday evening makes me happy

The dr in question is an ep, he performed an ablation for me.

I gotcha Achant. That's good news for Len as if he takes the ablation route then no further referral will be required.

I hope your ablation worked well for you ;-)

It kept me off of meds for three years, af has only just recently come back.

Since 2015 I have had 3 Ablations under Professor Osmans Firm. my AF is still present but it is controlled with rate controlled medication. Apart from feeling breathless my quality of life is bearable. Best wishes on your AF journey.

Hi

I’ve been a member of this forum for a while but not had the courage to post anything. Having had PAF for 15 years I had excellent care and treatment from the lovelyDr Panikker last year- he is an EP who worked at Barts in London and I highly recommend him.

Thanks for replying. What’s medication you on ? Have you had the ablation done ?

Hi

Yes I had cryo for vagal af( my episodes always at night ). I take bisoprol 1.25mgs once a day and Apixaban 5mgs twice a day. On Apixaban for life due to my age (71)and female. I’ve had follow ups with the arrythmia nurses via phone and also Dr Panikker. I have found all the staff lovely and highly professional at Coventry .

Yes he performed my ablation at the royal Brompton in March 2017. He was a loc consultant working under dr Markides. You’re in good hands.

My ElectroPhysiologist is Professor Osman (he's gone up in the world). I'm normally seen by one of his team when I attend hospital for appointments. He conducted Ablation on me 5 years ago, and will again in a few weeks (I hope).

My impression of him, admittedly from little direct contact, (people don't talk very much when an ablation is being performed) is that he is very business like. He got the job done well. I have no complaints.

I was with Dr Osman a few years back at UHCW, however I think I only saw him once. The other appointments were with the cardio nurses.

I ended up having my ablation at a “mobile” unit that was set up at Rugby St Cross. I’m not actually sure who performed the procedure. It wasn’t Dr Osman. My understanding is that it was a team who were there primarily to get the waiting list down. I had been on the waiting list for almost 18 months

Hi all. Just back from my 1st appointment with dr panikker at Coventry hospital He offered me an ablation it’s a 12month wait at the moment he said. He was very pleasant and explained all the pros and cons of the procedure.

Am pleased that you got the result you wanted . Don’t want to rain in your parade but you know if you have a successful ablation and carry on drinking your AF may well come back . Your choice . Take care

He also said I could start 2 x 50mg flecanide per day instead of the ablation to see if this works
