Sadly my recovery is not going as planned, suffered a cardiac event post surgery day two and rushed back into hospital. (I refuse to call it a heart attack as I am 41 yrs old). Acute pericarditis and and inflamed asophagus/stomach. Feeling really groggy and need to sit forward on my knees as that’s the only thing that helps the pain. On a ton of drugs, discharged from hospital as consultant was worried about the Covid risk (I live near Leicester). Feeling totally sorry for myself and needed to vent to people I know will understand.
Recovery hicups :-(: Sadly my recovery... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Recovery hicups :-(
Hi Fabjabfab. Sorry to hear of your dramas. I too developed pericarditis and oesophigitis after one of my ablations. My EP said it was a very strong inflammatory/autoimmune type response which, although fairly rare, tends to occur more in women in the 30-60 age group, which is the same age group where most people (and women in particular) develop autoimmune diseases. I was given a short course of Colchicine and Prednisolone for a few days and it took quite a few weeks to get better.
Sending hugs your way. Take care and get plenty of rest xx
I'm so sorry that you suffered this very rare complication. Some of us are like that. I am one in several million who arrested during a cardioversion in 2017! As you see, they got me back but at the cost of several broken ribs from CPR which took months to heal ('m 75 and heal a little slower these days) Things will improve I know as nothing lasts forever. Take care.
Bob
Bless you, I hope you have someone at home looking after you? Please let us know how you progress.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Jean
My heart goes out to you! Good luck
I am so sorry to hear of your traumas. I do hope you will start to feel a little bit better soon, once the meds have had a chance to kick in. Sending you a big hug🙆♀️ (nearest emoji I could find of a hug), and get plenty of rest.
You will get better, just may take a little time.
Take care,
Shirley x
I'm so so sorry to hear this, please update us on your recovery
Oh my Dear. So sorry to hear of all that. Hope you feel better very soon.
I have to say my upcoming ablation is on Tuesday and the city the hospital is in is in local lockdown so my worries are not so much about the ablation but the risk of catching C19 in the hospital - as the hospital kindly sent a notice with my letter stating that I would be more at risk from catching C19 in the hospital environment - thanks a bunch! Also 1 night if necessary might be OK but any longer and risk is larger. I am hoping that everything will go well and I will be out the same day as going in at 07.30 in the morning but obviously if anything happens this will not be so. Again, if anything goes wrong when you are home and further lockdown restrictions in the hospital city come into force - or heaven forbid the cardio centre closes down because of C19 what happens. Here there is no other hospital with a big cardio department - unless I go to the next hospital along the line which, funnily enough is also in a lockdown area? This is so concerning. Thankfully they have also given me a number to call if I am concerned about C19 which I will call tomorrow after I have made my appointment for a covid test on their instructions. We have been at other medical appointments every day this week - we made appointments as soon as lockdown ended so this is the first chance I have had to sit down and ring people about this - oh and one day our phone was out all day - no mobile signal either as Outreach were working on all sorts of things and as I came home from my glaucoma appointment this afternoon noticed there is another big hole near the junction box. Do hope it will all be working tomorrow. It will be interesting to hear what they say. What also concerns me is if I were to catch C19 in the hospital my wife is in the very high risk category with many lung conditions and it would be awful if, as my carer I was to pass on C19 to her. Now I know why so many people have cancelled their ablations and other procedures/operations during this time.
I do hope you feel better soon. Keep in touch when you feel able to. Sending healing thoughts through the ether.

Hi there is your procedure in Liverpool by any chance? I’m in for mine too on Tuesday x
No I live in South West Wales and Swansea is in lockdown where my procedure is taking place. I really didn't expect to get called so quicklyafter having to refuse first appointment - when they weren't in lcokdown as I was away visiting my recently widowed sister. then the city went into local lockdown and I though oh that's it for a few months. I think I am quite happy about the hospital as they have a totally clean ward away from the rest of the hospital but am concerned about things getting worse covid and lockdown wise when I may need them urgently during recovery.
Ah right I see I wouldn’t worry I had a cardio version earlier in the year and I felt completely safe I felt safer sat in there all day than I did half an hour in my local supermarket haha I hope it all goes well xx
Funnily enough I had my 3 cardioversions in a smaller hospital - last one in Feb this year and still in NSR from that one. Believe it or not that town is also in local lockdown. I don't know if they would ever do CV in the other hospital a little further west from us. I do know the hospital I am having my ablation in is the only one anywhere near where there is an EP and where they do ablations. I don't think it will be long before all larger cities are in lockdown - maybe they are as haven't checked up on anything today.
I read your follow up to your previous post and saw your procedure took 5 hours which seems pretty long nowadays with modern tech. Very bad luck, I hope you feel better soon 💐
Oh dear, poor you. I read, before my ablation, last year (also in Glenfield hospital) that there can be a few problems after the procedure in up to 30% or so of patients. It sounds, from what you've said, as if the heat of the catheter affected deeper structures and the nearby oesophagus which, I gather, can press tightly up against the back of the heart.
The Leicester unit is, apparently, famed for its heart and catheter centre so you will be in the best hands and should be well on the road to a full recovery soon.

Hang in there! Also suffered pericarditis the day after I was discharged...it was brief, but very painful - it only hurt every time I breathed...but after all that (one early episode of a-flutter too) the year since ablation has been a good one, hopefully you get to smooth sailing soon.
Sorry to hear that. I wish you a speedy recovery. I can't comment much as I haven't gone through any such procedures yet.
OMG. Stay positive as you're very young and this is just a bump on your way to better health.
