Implant or Bridge

Hi all,

hope everyone is doing well. Quick question, having paroxysmal AF and considering either a bridge or a tooth implant (fun fun), 50 years old, is there anything i should consider? I am not on blood thinners, just on Flec and Bisroprosol.

Thanks much :)

Andy

I have formed my dentist and remind him everytime I need anaesthetic that I have af and svt. He uses an appropriate anaesthetic which doesn’t contain adrenaline.

Recently I had a skin biopsy taken and told them about it too they also avoided certain anaesthetics and ones containing adrenaline. Always a good idea to let them know. I haven’t had any problems.

As I am on anticoagulant as well I always ask for advice about stopping it before a procedure. Good luck.

Purely from my own experience with that option I would go for an implant. I had several bridges following accidents when I was younger (implants were very rare back then) but they have a finite life which then means the two anchor teeth are usually lost as well. Keep as many of your real teeth as possible would be my advice or you end up with even less teeth.

Other than that adrenaline free local is a good idea as mentioned.

As per Meadfoot’s post - but also gum hygiene as gingivitis is a known contributor to heart conditions. Maybe ask advice on that from your dentist as the last thing you want with an implant is infection in your jaw. I had implant about20 years ago & have to b vigilant with mouth hygiene. I believe gingivitis was a contributory factor in my AF.
