Hi Health.
Try not to get anxious- it's a minor process is and minimally invasive. This could be why you haven’t noticed too many comments on the forum about its pros and cons. It takes about 20 minutes and recovery time is short.
You'll be fine. That's a Paul's Promise

Good Morning Paulbounce
What exactly is it please?
Hi Baba.
ILR (Implantable Loop Recorder) surgery is a simple procedure that inserts a tiny device under the skin to track heart rhythms over time. This instrument allows medics to catch Afib that cannot be detected during shorter monitoring timeframes. It is fast, lasting between 15-30 minutes, and there is typically no hospital stay. Recovery is minimal, and patients generally return to normal activities soon afterwards.

Morning Health.
I'm sure others will jump in and are likely to confirm what I said in my last post. Relax and try LSD (long/slow/deep breathing) to claim your nervousness. Have a positive mindset and it will be a walk in the park.

Edit - it was CD who kickstarted the LSD breathing technique. Try it - it works. Here's a link to a post about it. Read CD's answer too.
Don’t be nervous! It’s a minor procedure done in theatre. The area is cleaned, local anaesthetic injected - a bit stingy for a few seconds- then a small incision made and the loop recorder implanted. Some steristrips applied to close the wound and a small dressing to cover. All over quickly and back home. You will be given after care instructions and also either a bedside monitor or if you’re lucky an app to download on your mobile. You will feel a little sore for a few days but that soon goes and just carry on as normal.
Go for it as the implant catches everything when our heart rhythm has a tantrum and it’s definitive proof for the medics. I have had x2 inserted and feel so lucky to have had the chance to have one. Good luck!
Hi Grecophille.
Here's the score so far.
In favour of ILR - 2
Against ILR - 0

It easy peasy and quick... No worries. My Trust has trained Cardiac Physiologists putting them in. You will go Home with a Home Monitor, so you don't even need to have any Hospital visit, just regular Downloads.
If any issues are picked up,
( that are not a snapshot in time, like an ECG) the Hospital team will give the info direct to your Cardiologist.
They last a few years, think of it like a Animal ID chip.
think of it like a Animal ID chip. I wonder how long it will be until we will all be ‘chipped’ at birth? What a dreadful thought.
I had one about five years ago to diagnose my problem. It’s very simple and you will be fine.
A friend had ILR 2 years back, said it was no problem.
Don’t worry at all, you’ll be amazed how simple and easy it all is I’ve had 2 ILRs over the years and I wouldn’t hesitate to have one again if I need monitoring. In fact I hoped my EP would offer it after my latest arrhythmia developments, but sadly he didn’t!
I consider myself very lucky to have had an ILR, and I’m sure you will too once you experience it. Good luck, you’ll be absolutely fine! X
Thank you Jane I am back at home, all ok I am pleased I didn’t cancel it was a simple procedure
thank you for your support
That’s wonderful! Well done, and now you can relax in the security of knowing that they will catch anything that’s going on with your heart rhythm. It takes all the strain out of it and makes everything so much clearer and simpler Do let us know what they find, won’t you?
Btw are you on anticoagulants? I’m wondering if you had to stop them for the implanting? J x
Very quick and easy out patient procedure. My loop saved my life. It can detect a heart problems that give very little symptoms. Good luck and welcome to the world of blue-tooth enabled! They can install the monitoring app on your smart phone.
Thank you for your advice
I have had the procedure , I was so pleased with everyone’s advice ( it gave me the confidence I needed on the day)
So glad your procedure went smoothly. Having the loop gave me confidence that problems would be detected and fixed and, sure enough, the loop did it's job! Good luck to you on your journey.
