I take verapamil for atrial flutter and I’ve started getting quite bad acid reflux which I feel may possibly be due to prolonged use of verapamil. I am awaiting to see my cardiologist after watching and waiting to see how I am and then the plan was for ablation at some point. I saw him in January and I should really chase another appointment!
I wondered if anyone takes verapamil and gets acid reflux? If so could I ask for a different medication? Or any recommendations for what I could do? My gp isn’t great for advice!
Thanks so much - I know you’re all very knowledgeable on here!

I take verapamil, flecainide and rivaroxaban. They all cause acid reflux for me so I take omeprazole, it does make a big difference. I have hiatus hernia too so if I didn’t take omeprazole I wouldn’t be able to stomach the other life saving medications. Hope this helps x
Thanks so much for your reply, I did read that the calcium channel blockers cause acid reflex so I think I’ll try the tablets for that and stick to my verapamil as I have no other side effects from them, they’re my happy pills 😂😅 they’ve been my lifesavers since I started them. Thanks for your reply. I always feel so much better speaking to someone else on the same position as me.
The only side effects I have from verapamil is constipation, which is very common apparently. Hope the ppi’s work out for you like they did for me Mal x
