I was diagnosed with Afib 4 years ago and needed cardioversion. I have had a few weird symptoms since then but nothing that needed intervention. Now, almost everyday i feel my heart miss a beat and it takes my breath for that moment. Then I feel tired but my heart rate is 65 and rhythm is normal... anyone else have this? I am 34 and otherwise healthy.
Is this Afib?: I was diagnosed with... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Is this Afib?
Sounds like an ectopic or out of place beat. They are unpleasant things but are usually totally harmless and most of us have them.
There are hundreds of posts about them and the most useful advice is to slow, deep breathe using your belly muscles for at least 5 minutes. Sometimes mild exertion can shift them too - worrying about them makes them worse too.
Mine usually start if I am dehydrated or have eaten something to trigger a mild stomach upset. They are also more likely to start when you are at rest. If you type ectopics into the search box on the top right, you’ll get lots of info on them. By the way, they are not AF fortunately.
Thanks for the help!
I agree with Finvola, probably an ectopic of some description, they can really knock you sideways at times. They are usually benign though and everyone has them daily, difference is we feel them.
You could try a Kardia device from Alivecor alivecor.com/kardiamobile to do an ecg , but you have to be monitoring at the time to detect it which can be an issue . Or an apple watch would pick it up I guess, but I'm not an apple fan so have not gone down this road.
My palpitations are triggered by stress, illness (sometimes I know I am getting a cold or virus 3 days before the symptoms show because I get a huge number of ectopics) Chinese food (MSG) Cider (sulphites) and tiredness
