When I was attended by an ambulance crew they told me to sick an ice cube that didnt work for me. I have also drunk cold water which worked. When I woke up in the night with af my partner helped me concentrate on my breathing 5 breaths in and 7 breaths out slowly i went back into sinus rhythm it took a while. I have PAF so perhaps that works for me. Good luck
I just breathe slowly. I couldn’t possibly hold for 4 minutes. I avoid caffeine too.
I wouldn’t even want to try!
Sorry I meant 4 seconds !!!!!
Hi
Here’s my list that I work through !
Lie backward quickly from seated to lying position
Head down deep breathing
Drink cold fizzy drink quickly to induce burping - lie on right side curled up head down - hold your nose, close your mouth and exhale hard while straining as if you were on the toilet - wrists in cold water - headstand - blowing into a straw or into your finger - go to poo - coughing whilst bending over - put finger down your throat to gag
Dunk your head in cold water.
Fill a sink with cold water and plunge your face in it. Sometimes this little jolt can help. Others have said a cold shower has a similar effect.
Try belly breathing.
Lie down or sit comfortably, and relax. Breath through your nose to a count of four, slowly filling your belly. Exhale through the nose or mouth for the same four count. Breathe deep into your belly, not your chest. Make the inhalations as long as the exhalations and breathe in a circle, i.e., don’t hold your breath on the inhale or exhale. You can also try breathing into the belly and holding the breath for a count of ten (stopping if you feel uncomfortable), then resume breathing rhythmically to a count of four.
Valsalva maneuver
* the valsalva manoeuvre – take a deep breath, shut your mouth tight, hold your nose tightly and blow out as hard as you can
* the cold water technique – fill a bowl with cold water and put some ice in it, hold your breath and put your face in the water for a few seconds
I
Close your mouth, clamp your nose shut, and exhale.
Blowing into a closed fist like a trumpet
Holding your breath for a few seconds
Valsalva Manoeuvre (VM), is performed by having a patient blow into a syringe whilst lying down (face up) for 15 seconds, or blow into a Sri he for 15 seconds while sitting with back against wall in floor then immediately lying on floor with feet and legs vertical.
The last one works sometimes for me.

Been there & done all that - only add - is lie prone on floor for a few moments - relax & then get someone to raise both legs from ankles - keep straight legs - quickly & remain with legs up & straight at 90 degrees to your body. Stay in that position for 10 mins or so. Not an immediate response for me but often helped lower HR so NSR returned within an hour. I have very low BP so I think that helped restore my BP which is why it worked for me.
4 mins ??!🙄
Where is 4 mins mentioned?
Teddi states that breathing in and holding for 4 mins can stop AF....as John 6 says below, that would stop it alright and everything else !
I feel like Margo in the Good Life, just don't understand as I can't hear 4 mins mentioned at all. You do mean in the recording in Elsie's post?
I accidentally write 4 mins meant 4 seconds !!!!!
When I was headed for hospital in the ambulance, the paramedics kept trying to get me to bow through a syringe several times (to no avail, I have to add). However sometimes I've tried to emulate this by making a fist and blowing through it - on one occasion only it did the trick! I also find (episodes were lasting 1-2 hours) listening to music with a distinctive beat helped me feel better. When I say 'distinctive' I don't mean a necessarily 'heavy' beat - I've gone from Val Doonican on 'Scarlet Ribbons' to the Proclaimers '500 miles which in itself, is probably the musical version of Afib.
All the best.
I just go on Facebook and chat, ignoring it,I won't let it spoil my life ha,4 minutes seems a bit extreme to me.
I’m so sorry I meant 4 seconds !!!!!
Yes,I though you did,haha
