I have been taking 5.mg of Apixaban twice a day for a year for Afib I have no energy whatsoever so tired all the time. Blurred vision aching legs. Can’t go on like this. Anybody else on Apixaban experience these systoms? My house is a mess can’t find the energy to do simple tidying up.

Are you sure it’s the Apixaban? your symptoms aren’t listed as side effects. What other meds are you taking ? Have you had thyroid tested ?

When i did not take Apixaban for a day. I felted so much better. I also take beater blocker Bisoprolol 3.75mg once a day.

Without your day off Apixaban experiment, I'd have guessed it was the Bisoprolol causing the symptons you describe. Maybe you can repeat the experiment again, with your doctor's permission of course.

I had similar side effects from Bisoprolol and changed to Atenalol 25mg a day. I still feel tired but not as bad and don’t have the other symptoms. Still taking 5mg Apixaban.

I'm ok on Apixaban but we all react differently. Why don't you just ask your doctor to switch you to another anticoagulant like Xarelto? Maybe you will do better.

That said, are you sure it's the Aphixaban or not the afib or some of the other drugs you're taking? But again, switching anticoagulants is pretty easy to do so worth the try.'

Hi I also take 3.75mg one a day. I have heard blurred vision is one of the signs of taking Apixaban.

Apixaban is an anticoagulant for stroke prevention in AF and does not treat it as such. What drugs are you taking to treat your AF as these are more likely to be the cause.?

Hi P3.

First off I'm not a medic so my thoughts are just something to discuss with your doctor.

Apixaban might not be the reason you feel so tired all the time - Bisoprolol might be though. 3.75mg is a middle of the road dose but can knock you for six. It did with me and I found 2.5mg workable. I'm on Dabigatran now as my antiicoagulant and you don't even know your on it - maybe ask your doctor about changing to this ?

You could also ask your doctor about spliting your Bisoprolol dose ie half in the morning and half at night. Bisoprolol and I don't see eye to eye but it does the trick. However I found it hard work and am now on Sotalol - it might be worth discussing this with your doctor too.

Good luck.

Paul

Thank you so much for your advice Paul. I shall definitely speak to my Gp about the medication you suggested. It will be such a relief if i can get back to feeling normal again.

Just to say…when I was on Bisoprolol for over a year I had bad side effects: fatigue, fuzzy head, excruciating leg pains. I came off Bisoprolol with GP’s blessing and felt so much better. ( I take Riveroxoban as anticoagulant. )

Hi thereYour symptoms sound much more likely to be caused by the bisoprolol not the anticoagulant. I couldn’t tolerate bisoprolol for the very symptoms you have described but have absolutely no reaction at all to my Apixiban (Eliquis).

My partner and I both had terrible problems with Eliquis (apixaban). We are not all the same.

I have very similar symptoms but I think it’s the Flecanine as it’s become progressively worse over the years as the dose has been increased. When I started on Apixaban there was no noticeable difference. Has anyone else had the same results with Flecanide ? Also taking Verapamil. I couldn’t handle Bisoprol at all that was even worse.Hope you find a definitive answer? J.

Different people have different side effects. And not all side effects are listed in the information we receive. I had terrible problems to as I am super sensitive to pharma meds. Was a zombie. My partner cannot take the pharma blood thinners either. He felt worse than I did. On Eliquis, what you call apixaban, his legs were swollen and beet red and ulcerated. He lowered the dose himself more than once and his legs were getting better. When it was time for him to see his Dr he told her what was happening and she put him on Xarelto. That one caused his prostate to swell up and he ended up in the emergency room getting a catheter. Had to stop Xarelto. Drs wanted to try a third one and he said no as the side effects were the same as the Xarelto. So they said take aspirin. We are both doing natural treatments and are still here. We all have different bodies. We all know how our bodies react to what we put in them. Just because a side effect isn't listed doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Drs need to be more aware of that and listen to the patient. I hope you find something that works for you. Take care.

I’m curious to know what natural treatments you both are doing. Are you taking aspirin, as well, or some other natural treatments? I’m taking both Eliquis 5 mg and Sotalol 120 mg twice a day, but I would really like to get off pharma meds!

I am on quite a high dose of bisoprolol and recently I literally couldn’t go 10-20 steps with having to stop - it was reduced and other meds stopped and I am a lot better (still awaiting further treatment but able to go slow but further (ask for a meds review by GP or pharmacist that may be based at your surgery)

Speaking from my experience, the only side effect I know is from not taking it. A major stroke!

Bisoprolol, is a different story as that left me tired and lacking energy. I no longer take it.

All the best.

Roy

It's the beta blocker, not apixaban, causing your tiredness.

Hello, my guess would be the beta blocker as well causing your tiredness. However that is not to say that the Apixaban (Eliquis) is also not a factor. I only take Apixaban and I am weak, tired, and now anemic. I'm even worse on a beta blocker or calcium blocker. I also have stomach issues on the Apixaban. My hope is to do a heart procedure that gets me off of any blood thinner. I am VERY drug sensitive. Check out Drugs.com for a list of all the common side effects of the drugs you are on.
