After waiting through lock down I have a date of the 7th July for this to be done. I hope this one will be successful! I hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

I'm assuming this isn't your first ablation. I had 2 that each lasted a year. It wasn't until I had my third and they went through to the right side of my heart that it worked. That was 3 years ago and I am eternally grateful for the Drs at Barts, London for all their help. I dont have to take any tablets.

I have had a pace & ablate and also an ablation so although I do not hold much hope my EP is very optomistic. I will have it done otherwise I would always be thinking "what if" I am so grateful for all the messages of support as I do not have family except my autistic son so friends do not abound all my friends are his friends and all autistic. I see them as just different but they are lovely people and make up my 'family'

I try but after two failures and lockdown I find it difficult to believe!

I dont know if you are in London or who you are under but wish you all the luck in the world. Like you, I thought it would never be sorted out but on the 3rd ablation it was.

Let us all know how you get on. Xx

That’s a lovely reply Jacky and reassuring for me too. I’m waiting for my third ablation and in Feb was told the sooner the better and put down as urgent at Barts. Obviously with lockdown this has not happened yet so I’m quite pessimistic too. Only thing I’m keeping in mind is my consultant said I’m a good candidate for Pace and Ablate so have a Plan B.

I hope you should be called soon. Send an update to remind them you are there. That's what I did otherwise you are just one of many. During lockdown when I enquired the told me I was second on his list when they resumed elective surgery. It was March when I should have had it done so you can imagine when everything went dead. I am at Royal Stoke Hospital which is the main heart hospital for the area .

Shake their tree let them know you are still waiting! I had pace & ablate 1st as he likes to work on the safest one as i am 76 and overweight not the best. Sadly it didn't work for me. My rate is perfect but my rhythm is not.

Just to encourage you, my third ablation last September at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London is the one that has made all the difference . After that my medication was reduced and now is being stopped, with only the anti-coagulant to take daily. It is so good to be off beta blockers. The medical team were brilliant! And, a bit like you, I was not expecting such a result as after the first two, I was not better at all! Thanks to the wonderful team at RBH. Good luck!

Dear Cali, we’re all rooting for you on here - and we’ll be thinking of you / praying / positive vibing for you (all in our different ways!) on the 7th. And in the run up too, which is nerve racking I’m sure. But you’re in safe hands 😊

Do keep us posted, won’t you?

Agree. My first ablation for afib was successful but I developed atypical flutter 14 months later. My EP referred me to another EP in the group to perform the second complicated ablation. Both EPs attended the second ablation. They were tenacious as I was atypical and they were determined to improve my quality of life. All is good. Ablation works!

After all the anticipation my PVI was stopped after the finding of another clot in my heart. Oh the disappointment but the EP is going to change my anti cogulant to Dabigatron which he says is more powerful than Apixiban and see if it will desolve it and the go for a hybrid procedure. Today he was going to use a new piece of kit that if the top part of the heart turns green a PVI will be successful but if it turns red it is not worth doing. So who knows what he would have found. So with my history he thinks better success with a hybrid. Clever stuff!5

cali111 profile image
cali111 in reply to cali111

I only know what he told me once I was there not beforehand .They make a hole into the heart and put in a probe which registers on a special machine. It also tells them where to ablate so it reduces over ablating.

Sorry that you had all the anticpation for nothing to happen. I'm waiting for cardioversion number 3 and on the list for an ablation. Curious to know what red and green indication thing is. At what point do they use this, once they're in or before they start? Is the hybrid ablation where they do the posterior wall as well?

Best wishes

cali111 profile image
cali111 in reply to Ducky2003

I feel like I have missed a significant step in ablations

cali111 profile image
cali111

hybrid is indeed done on the posteria wall but it is invasive and only one step down from full open heart surgery.

Ducky2003 profile image
Ducky2003

Dont like the sound of that then 😳. Not particularly wanting an ablation full stop but accept that it probably needs to be done. Interesting to know so thank you. May mention to my EP/cardiologist to get his take. Best wishes for your future treatment 😊

cali111 profile image
cali111 in reply to Ducky2003

Ablation is not a cure. We all tend to miss that part as we look for cure. I have had 2 ablation each lasted 3 months before failing. I am 76 and had been in permanent AF for two years so success was poor to begin with and I am overweight another negative. Good luck with your EP, but ask the right questions and listen very closely to his answers.
