Magnesium?

I've just gone back into AF after an ablation last August. Waiting now to hear from Cardiologist about future plan - probably another ablation. My question though relates to magnesium. A friend has told me that taking a magnesium supplement is a good idea for those with AF. Apparently it was recommended by a Cardiologist. I've also read that, if we eat a healthy, balanced diet we should not need such supplements. Any thoughts?

Magnesium (Taurate) is a populnar supplement taken by many with AF. The best and easiest way to find out more is to search Dr Sanjay Gupta, York Hospital, Magnesium on YouTube and around 4 videos on the subject will tell you everything you will need to know.....

I eat a healthy balanced diet and I have taken a daily supplements (including magnesium) for years. I am rigorous in checking efficacy and the quality from suppliers. When there is a new question mark over a certain supplement, I follow carefully to find out what new research finds out. I am never tempted by outlandish claims on packaging when (in the olden days) I might wander round a health store.

Yes, we are told supplements aren't necessary with a healthy diet. However, in terms of health and well-being it costs very little to 'top up' and if it comes with no risk and added (perhaps unquantifiable) benefit, I will carry on.

Best of luck with your second ablation.

Your diet cannot give you all the magnesium you need. The amount of mag that used to be in certain food items is taken up into the plant through the ground. If there’s barely any in the soil(there isn’t now) it can’t be taken up.

I take magnesium citrate(800mg daily) and a separate Taurine supplement .

Try magnesium, it’s safe ( but might not be for those with poor kidney function).

You will excrete any you don’t need so it can’t build it up in your body: in case that’s a worry for you.
