See comment re losartan - its interesting because I have read elsewhere that some were worried that it carried a risk in severe cases- anyone else heard any views.

Hi. I take Losartan and have read reports that it can make things worse if you do go down with the virus - something to do with the way the virus binds to the enzyme used in this type of drug. Bit worried 😧 but advice is not to stop taking it - I may speak to doctor about changing to some other BP med. I can understand the logic that this may also offer something towards treatment of Covid-19 - who knows?🤔. I’m just trying social distancing and waiting to be confined to the house!!

Keep well everyone!

Liz

Hi, I think the science is unclear at the moment. I've seen two manuscripts that have contradictory theories, with no numbers or empirical data. The jury's still out as to whether it is a good or bad thing. In the meantime, you should definitely keep taking your medication as prescribed.

I read this too and rang my GP, no information. Both me and my husband take these. 4 days later I rang again and the receptionist said she had asked the doctor and there is no medical information that they are harmful.

We had better look out ourselves for any news on this front

From what I read on several studies these "SARTAN" hypertensives provide the perfect receptors for the virus. In other words the receptors which the drugs make them stand out better would be the perfect spots for the virus to latch on to the lungs, and to a lesser extent the heart and kidneys and bowels. Just right for a fatal infection.

There are other doctors who suggest waiting for more proof.

Proof that may come too late to save those taking the meds.

No one is sure what to do.

A Dr. Gupta says isn't it better to switch drugs than wait and see?

I'm very concerned as i take Telmisartan
