Posted recently about getting a blackout feeling when my food hits the bottom of Esophagus and then going into SVT. It now happens when I burp which stifles and that sets off. It happen about 10 - 20 times a day. I can get the svt to stop by lying with legs in air. That’s over 2 weeks now and no improvement. The doctor put me on esomeprazole and ranitidine in case it was gastric and she emailed cardiology to see what they said. They finally came back today and said that I should wait for my ablation for svt on 27th feb as that may solve it. I take mostly liquid foods now except tea where I just try and suffer the episodes till I get my tea down. Even drinking water induces the burping and sometimes sets it off. It’s going to be a long month. I have private health care through my work but can’t use it unless referred through doctor. I suppose I have to trust the experts but still feel myself that it’s some sort of gastric issue especially as I keep burping even with water but they won’t investigate that till proven that the ablation doesn’t solve it.
Pretty disappointed. I wake up in the morning keen to eat my porridge to see if it has resolved. But every day is the same at the moment. Maybe tomorrow 🙏🏻

They are testing for that - was last Thursday I handed in a poo sample. Still not back. I hope it is something like that as that looks like it would be treated by antibiotics.
I’ll keep chasing.

Hi Elsie,
In addition to progressing your issues along the NHS pathway, have you considered consulting a Nutritionist as well. So - very very briefly - sometimes conventional western medicine has a mental block ! I found my AF was triggered by food and once my symptoms had been addressed by eliminating IBS and Coeliac Disease I did consult a Nutritonist and haven't looked back. If you are in UK go to the BANT website and explore it. It will have a box for you to check out one near where you live. Such a practitioner may also be able to advise on H Pylori too as mentioned by CDreamer.
There is always the possibility you have a dysfunctional vagus nerve which is inflamed in some way by certain foods. This nerve is like an information superhighway between the brain, the heart and the digestive system. It also interacts with many other organs and parts of the body.
I make these comments not in anyway as a medical person but as a patient with views based on my AF journey.
Thanks for this. I’ve been to a nutritionist before but not since the swallow issue. You are right it is worth going back and telling them these new symptoms.
I had something like this before my ablation, while I was suffering with atrial flutter. My doctor told me that it was because the oesophagus can be pressing against the heart and drinking or swallowing food pushes it further towards the heart, which can set off tachycardia.
That’s encouraging. Just need to get to 27th feb. I was googling as you do and noticed that for the H pylori test you need to have been off PPI for two weeks. Has anyone else had the test while on PPI ?
I did have the test but can’t recall the need to come off lansoprazole. I think you’re right though and I’ve forgotten - or maybe there’s a different test?
