Had my ablation for svt at 11 this morning and still laying flat! Wound keeps bleeding so not allowed to move!! It was a success. I had a birth defect apparently and he said it’s now sorted....I’m so happy 😁

Ian, it really wasn’t anything like I thought. The worry beforehand is the worst. I am sore, but that’s nothing to the fact of knowing it’s been a success. I just want to put your mind at ease.....x

Brilliant hearing how well your doing and sounds like your being properly looked after. Really admire how you've handled it all, now I've got no excuse at all next Tuesday, it's actually made such a difference hearing how you've done today, i can't believe your thinking of settling my mind after all you've been through today, so kind, thank you though its totally made my mind up about it all, sleep well tonight, so glad it went so well for you x

Excellent news. Rest in the knowledge you are sorted and can resume a good life once you are over the procedure. Don't overdo it though in the coming weeks rest up and give yourself time to heal fully.

Sounds interesting that he found a birth defect. I have never heard of that one before.

As has already been said make sure you have a lot of rest now. This will give you the best chance of a speedy recovery.

Glad it is all over for you.

I’ve had svt since I can remember. As a child they would only last 10-20 minutes. Last year I was rushed into hospital twice and had to have adenosine....both episodes lasted 2-3 hrs. Heart rate of 250+. I didn’t know it was a birth defect either....They say you learn something new everyday and today’s our day!! Lol. The hospital staff here have been fantastic. Anyone who is considering having it done, I would say Go Ahead.....it’s not been as bad as I thought it would be and the sedation put me to sleep so I knew nothing. Hopefully I can go home tomorrow. I’ve finally been allowed to get up out of bed 😀😀😀

Good luck with recovery - take it easy and rest for a couple of weeks then gradual build up.

Congratulations but you must make sure your completely rest for a couple of weeks. Do nothing more than pop the kettle on for the first week then begin to walk small walks for 15 mins and build up. Follow your body. All the best.

Tears in my eyes as I read this. I am months off mine! Just the other side of a failed cardioversion. How scary was the procedure may I ask ? Painful? Wishing you very well with your full recovery. Very inspiring ❣️

Hi. I’m sorry you are upset. The weeks before were far worse than the actual procedure. The worry, the stress, the apprehension. The sedation put me to sleep...I remember nothing but waking up while they were finishing off. About three hours after laying flat my wound started bleeding and they had to get the surgeon in to put pressure on and it eventually stopped after around 10 minutes. Apart from the laying down, which was uncomfortable the pain in my chest was minor and the groin pain I would describe as sore more than painful. It’s very hard to do the simplest things for the first week as I was completely out of breath and quite weak, then gradually the second week I did a few small things like walking, washing, cooking etc....The third week a little more. I still have chest pain, and I still have ectopic beats and flutters but on a whole I’m getting there. I did have a call after three weeks from the hospital asking how I was and I explained about the chest pain etc and they told me my eco after the op showed I had fluid around my heart (which no one informed me of at the time) so they had me straight in for an emergency scan, ecg and bloods and everything was good. The fluid is still the same so I was sent home to rest. I am feeling good and it really wasn’t a bad procedure. When is yours?

How are you feeling now, are you getting back to normal? I was a pretty fit cyclist. Really miss getting out there!

It’s in Birmingham. I’m feeling ok. I have other heath issues so not sure if they are effecting me at the moment. My heart is improving every day and I’ve started back at work now on reduced hours. What have you been diagnosed with? Is it af or svt?

Turquoise19 profile image
Turquoise19

I have AF, not sure what SVT is? Are your other issues related ? Which one do u have? Sorry for all the questions, feels like so much I don't know!

How long then did you need off work. Some of the literature says u can drive within 2 days!

LMor profile image
LMor in reply to Turquoise19

Mine was for svt. From what I understand it’s an extra pathway in my heart that causes my heart to suddenly beat very fast (250 beats a minute) was rushed into a & e twice a few times and had to be given adenosine. It’s not a nice experience so decided to have the ablation and then hopefully it will never happen again. My mum has AF. She is on medication to control it and so far so good. I needed five weeks off work. Some people go back after a week, some two. It really depends on your job and how you feel. I would advise to take a minimum of three weeks as it takes a long time for your heart to fully recover. My other health issues are not relevant to my svt. This is something I’ve had all my life. There are a lot of people on here who can give some very good advice on AF. I don’t have this so I wouldn’t want to advise you on that. You sound very worried which is understandable. It’s very frightening when it’s your heart to think there’s something wrong. I hope you get the advice you need x

Turquoise19 profile image
Turquoise19

Thx very much, very reassuring talking to you. Did your Mum ever go for an ablation to treat her AF?

LMor profile image
LMor in reply to Turquoise19

No...she’s well controlled on the medication and doesn’t feel it would benefit her. I think it’s very much worth doing if AF effects the quality of your life. Of corse there are risks so it’s a personal choice, but I would have it again without too much worry if my svt returns
