Flulike cold and afib

I am having the third horrible cold in 2 months and although I usually have paroxysmal afib I find at the moment I am in practically permanent afib. I don't know whether to ride it out till my cold gets better or put myself on flecanaide which I hate because of the side effects, twice a day and still go into afib. I should mention I am on a 6 weeks holiday in the Canary Islands and beside myself with worry.

Sorry I can't help but I am sure someone will be along who can. Best of luck.

Have you been given carte blanche to use or not use flecainide regularly according to how your heart is behaving by your consultant?? It is a serious med and although I find it amazing sounds like you have had probs in the past. You don't. mention what side effects you get.

When my husband went into AF ( first time for 15 years) in the Canaries (Lanzarote) the care was good. We went to the Private hospital and were very lucky insurance paid out as they wanted to transfer him.

Could you ring Cons sec in uk for advice?

Thank you. I am not under a consultant now I guess because symptoms are occasional and I have pill in the pocket but when I return to the UK I will pursue that. My problem is that I have had 3 horrible colds in the last 3 months and didn't realise how much that affects the afib. It's been very scary as every time the flecanaide corrects it it tries to go back into afib. I have also been very anxious about the whole thing which brings on acid reflux and of course afib- a vicious cycle. I am now taking omeprazole to try and help that.

Viruses do tend to rock the boat. Keeping well hydrated is important , which I'm sure you'll know especially in warmer climes

You could see if the following has any effect: liposomal vitamin C, Glutathione 1.5, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Chloride.

Thanks. Have just read a bit about glutathione but am not sure what you mean by 1.5. How do you take it.

Bagrat has given good advice but the best thing you can do in this situation is to keep well hydrated & ensure your electrolytes are balanced - so eat good fruits such as coconut, banana, guava etc rich in minerals. The other thing to do is breathing exercises to promote relaxation as your worry will exacerbate your AF. The calmer you stay, the more you rest & recuperate the sooner you will feel better.

Assuming you have good insurance, do not hesitate to go to a medical centre for monitoring & reassurance as it will help to ease your worry.

Best wishes CD
