Hi Kaz Prashanthan Sanders was involved in the LEGACY study on lifestyle changes
and I have been following his advice for 3 years.
The results in LEGACY has been replicated and been confirmed in later studies.
A recent review..
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Having read the LEGACY study when first diagnosed I have tried to follow it to the letter for 3 years losing more than the %10 bodyweight recommended , cutting out alcohol/ increasing exercise/ improving my already good diet by changing to a Mediterranean style diet/ getting more sleep/avoiding stress.
The episodes of P-AF became less frequent going from every 10 days to every few months so maybe I slowed down the progression.
I have been getting more frequent episodes of late , maybe due to lack of excercise in the winter months so I am addressing that now.
Thanks for that Kaz, good format and manner....useful.....an addendum to Mr Gupta's mantra 'the company it keeps'...ie make sure with lifestyle that AF is in as 'good company ' as possible .
Thanks Kaz v useful. I have always followed the path of reducing all lifestyle risk factors simultaneously as well as taking pills...it seems to work. Most of the changes I have made have no side effects and benefit long term health.
Thank you for this informative post.. I was particularly struck by the results for people who managed a 'moderate' weight loss of 36 llbs or 2 and a half stone. It is good to have a reminder to 'stay with the plan', especially after the mid winter feast.
Thanks Kaz. Listened to pod cast. Very interesting and hope giving that the effects of afib can be reversed . Lifestyle changes my summary. Weight, activity, sleep, diabetes, blood pressure, smoking and alcohol.
Loose weight. Sleep well. Exercise every week for at least 30mins 4 times. Reduce alcohol to a treat no more than 2 units at one time. No binge drinking and no smoking.
Their figures for pre ablation reduced necessity by 40% by managing the above.
Sad for me as the only factor I have is blood pressure. It seems to be an atavistic trait. Recommended listening to pod cast.
Yes, I had a look. 2 standard drinks a week. Alas and alack. Woe is me. The
MIND diet says I can drink red wine to prevent dementia. Ah well...
