Fluoxetine and Flecainide

My GP prescribed Sertraline for my depression but the pharmacist said I should not take it as I am on Flecainide as well.

Apparently it causes the Flecainide glucose levels to increase to toxic levels.

What the GP then did was to prescribe Fluoxetine but it is the same thing.

Anyone here on both?

Im in sertraline snd flecainide, modest doses of 50 mg. My cardiologist said sertraline might increase the effects of flecainide, so I am on a liwer dose of flecainide. Ive taken sertraline for a couple years without issue

Thanks for replies. Seems I'll have to wait to see my cardiologist before going ahead but that could take months.

Hi

I am on 150mg Flecanide twice a day and 50mg of Sertraline. I've been on this since January 2016.

No one has ever queried this, I even saw my cardiologist yesterday and he reviewed meds and never questioned this.

I'm not on fluoxetine, but am on Escitalopram, another SSRI, and also on Flecainide. No problems. I can only tolerate a small dose of Flecainide (25 mg twice per day). Perhaps that is why. My EP has reviewed my drugs and is ok with me taking both.

Escitalopram and Flecainide shows red as in serious interactions on the bnf.nice website.

WebMD website shows minor interaction between Flecainide and Sertraline.

Serious interactions between Flecainide and Fluoxetine.

Both are same composition.

The bnf.nice website that my GP used does not list anything on either. This is because there is no information on their interactions.

Flecainide increases the QT wavelength.

Fluoxetine and Sertraline both increase the QT wave as well causing the interaction

I started taking Sertraline 50mg with my Flecainide 100mg x 2 as from today. Seems the best option of the two.

I'm clutching at straws I suppose. My palpitations are anxiety related and so frequent that I only go out when I have to see the GP or go for tests. This is so depressing.
