Has anyone had a gastroscopy whilst on Rivaroxaban?

Hello everyone: Been told to come for a gastroscopy on Sunday related to my acid reflex problems. Unfortunately have received two conflicting instructions from Gastro department: Don't take Rivaroxiban for 24 hrs beforehand; Also been told to keep on taking Rivaroxiban and if a biopsy is needed I will be asked to come back. Reason I got two sets off instructions was because I realised my appointment is at 12 noon and I take my daily does at 6pm which doesn't quite add up to 24 hours. So rang again. Different person replied.

What should I do? Would like to hear from anybody who has had a gastroscopy and of course any advice is always welcome.

Lots of good wishes to all.

PS Enjoyed my first AA Association in Birmingham.

PS to above: Now realise my conflicting advice problem is not unique! Would still welcome replies plus if gastroscopy can be a trigger? Always like to know what I am in for!

I had a gastroscopy four weeks of so ago. I was told to stop Flanagan forty eight hours before procedure. I was also having a capsule attached to my esophagus to measure reflux for five days. I also had biopsies taken.

I too had conflicting advice and seem to have with every procedure where anticoagulant is concerned. I had to stay of it for five days afterwards due to the capsule being in situe. Best wishes.

Hi

Since may I have had 3 ERCP procedures 2 as in patient and a standard gastroscope scan.

Each time was 48 hours free of anticoagulant ((rivorvaxiban)

No problem re my AF I am pleased to have report

I have had gastroscopy twice in the last two years, once orally and once through the nose. I had been taking 30mg aspirin daily to reduce stroke risk. Orally was OK with sedation but through the nose caused me to bleed profusely for about an hour post procedure. Now that I am on Apixaban, I would certainly stop taking it at least 24hrs prior to any gastroscopy procedure. Good luck!

I take Apixaban and had a gastroscopy recently. I, too, stopped taking it for 24 hours prior to the procedure, and also I had to stop taking the acid preventative (Ranitidine). With regards to the anti-coagulant, remember that it is only being taken to decrease the likelihood of a clot forming during the time it is active in your blood, a likelihood that is pretty low anyway, so there is no very great risk involved in not taking it for a day or two.

Thanks for that. Very interesting. I take Rivaroxaban at 6pm each day. My gastroscopy is at noon which means I am 18hrs off and not a full day. Do you think that makes much of a difference? Or should I stop the previous day which would make it 42 hrs without?

I am on twice a day apixaban 8.30 and 20.30). I had a colonoscopy with biopsies and also 3 toes broken and pinned surgery. I was told by my EP to stop the 20.30 apixaban the night before surgery not to take next morning of the surgery and resume that evening if no excessive bleeding. All was fine. Best wishes to you

I had one six weeks ago. They advised not to take my 8pm tablet the night before the procedure in case they need to do biopsies. The last thing you need is to go in again just for a biopsy. It’s a minor procedure, but still carries some risks. Do t eat anything after your evening meal and restrict fluids to water only and small amounts until 2 hours before procedure. Good luck .
