Hi I’m 48 had a chest infection/asthma was in hospital 10 days as heart rate was high and was told it may go away but looks like it hasn’t, my mum had it same age then went on to have a massive stroke so as you can imagine I’m scared. Although I’ve been reassured medicine has come a long way since then.

I’ve been put on rivaoxabn and zemtard and frusomide. I’m out of hospital and so breathless if I do anything it’s so wierd and my heart pounds and I feel shaky? So my question is I’ve just got a referral to cardio but not until December, do I just have to put up with this till then or does it get better ? I’ve been told I’ll probably be having cardioversion, I also get the feeling I might be referred to a arythmia nurse so is that usually after the main appointment.

Having asthma doesn’t help as inhalers increase heart rate too.

Are you in AF now? What is your heart rate?

You are now anticoagulated so risk of stoke is vastly reduced

Sorry that you have had to join or club, non of us want to be a member.

This forum is great though, you will find lots of support here

Yes I assume so as every day in hospital had ecg and just showed af all time but they were happy to let me out as long as it was under 100. I’m on tablets to reduce heart rate something called zemtard .

According to my Apple Watch My pulse goes from anything 140s dropping to 50s all day and I’m taking it easy. So bizarre I’ve never even taken any notice of my heart rate before.

So glad I found this site as I was given a printout from nurse when I was being discharged from nhs site when I asked more about it.

If you are in fast AF it is normal to feel like you do.

Hopefully a cardioversion will help.

Try and read as much as you can on here, there is loads of helpful info

I would ask to see an EP (electrophysiologist), experts in electrics of heart rather than plumbing. Some people on here did this privately £200ish) and then reverted to NHS - assuming you're in UK. If you want recommendations ask, telling us where you are. In the meantime it's good you are on rate control med plus anticoagulant. That should protect you from stroke.

Read all you can and good luck. It gets easier once you are in the system.

Thankyou my hubby said might be worth looking at as I need to get back to work don’t want to take too much time off but at the minute so breathless 🙈 yes I’m in uk north east.

Why not put a new posting on here asking people in the North East to recommend an EP. Then ask your GP to refer you to the one you choose and see what happens. If all too slow then you can look at the private option.

Not what you're looking for?
