Hi Simon111, may i ask why you are on Bisraprol? i was also put on this back in December due to AF and was still getting extra beats and flutters even though HR was always inbetween 50's and 60's went to my GP and we switch to metraprol which i still get the odd extra beat and flutter but not as bad as when i was on Bisraprol, i also had my ablation 3 weeks ago and still on metraprole still been getting the odd flutter and extra beats
AF is not always about the heart rate being high, but more that the chambers of the heart are not beating correctly. So you could have what appears to be a normal heart rate, but it doesn't mean your heart is functioning normally. Or it may be doing an incorrect beat every say 10th one. Can you feel in your wrist whether the beats are evenly spaced?
Hi Simon, you’re not being a pain Never worry about asking questions, there’s lots of people on here happy to listen and respond - and we all learn a lot from the answers!
I hope you’re doing ok- how are you feeling now? If you’re still having the same concerns about whether you’re in AF or not, Jeanjeannie’s response is really helpful.
Mostly we can tell by feeling our pulse, and a completely chaotic irregularity will identify it as AF, whatever the rate. Other arrhythmias are also identifiable through the pulse (eg harmless ectopics).
Some people buy a Kardia device that can help them see if they are in AF or Normal Sinus Rhythm at any time they test it, which is excellent for diagnosing and recognising the condition, and getting a record of what the heart is doing. But (like home BP monitors etc) not great for anyone who may overuse it due to anxiety about the condition!
I don’t know if you’ve managed to get a referral to an EP yet, but i’d definitely be pushing for that. And all the info Doodle outlined in your ‘newly diagnosed’ post is brilliant, and exactly what we all need, to get to grips with understanding this stuff
Hope you’re feeling a bit better, but never hesitate to check with a doctor if you’re worried xx
Yes thank you Simon for your post, always helpful the way it brings out helpful know how. I had an ablation 8 weeks ago tomorrow and getting some fluttery feelings, making me feel a bit anxious, us this it coming back, but as JJ and JF said I have worked out that so long as my pulse is mostly steady and strong, I am ok . So good to have that confirmed by our team.
If you are only just diagnosed takes a while to take it all in and come to terms.
8 months in I have had some amazing treatment from the cardiologists or EPs at Tommies in London. You will be in safe hands. Keep on asking questions 🌞
