I recently purchased a heart rate monitor that you wear as a watch and noticed when I exercise and get my heart rate to 110 bpm let’s say after walking up a hill etc, my heart rate is still late 90’s for up to a hour after. Or sometimes it just stays not much lower than my peak heart rate. I get no shortage of breath, and I don’t get any pains in chest or anything inc PVCs or AFIB and I feel fine. I just expected my heart rate to drop a lot faster after exercising. Does anyone have the same experience.?

Heart rate still high after exercise
What is your normal heart rate before you do any exercise?
Have you had an ablation in the last few months? If so then yes, that happened to me for quite a long time after ablation.
Do you take any meds? 90 is still within normal range. The time HR takes to return to normal resting rate can be an indicator of fitness level or it could just be that your HR takes time to recover from exercise these days.
Hi cdreamer, yes I take bisoprolol and done so for last ten years. 53 now and Haven’t had any recent ablations. My avg resting heart rate shows 69 on the wrist monitor. I feel fine after exercise and probably wouldn’t have ever noticed my heart rate staying elevated for longer than I’d expect if it wasn’t for the wrist monitor.
If you are not symptomatic then I wouldn’t personally be concerned.
I think I’ll throw the watch in bin. I may feel better then.😂
It has happened to me and I have been symptomatic and therefore do not like the sensation.
I am not aware of any remedy maybe you should just keep a record and tell your EP when you next talk to him/her.

Maybe the warmer weather, and after exercise mine used to stay a little higher, the fitter and more walking I've done, the quicker it drops now. But as others say around or below 100bpm all good I'd say , normally mines 65-75bpm resting, I wouldn't worry unnecessarily, I take my watch off sometimes as it makes you anxious looking at it and can raise your HR just by default .Deep breathing exercises I can drop mine in minutes.
I have a Garmin Forerunner 245 sports watch and noticed that bpm doesn’t go down after exercise, so I bought a Garmin Pro chest strap for improved accuracy and noticed the same behavior. I was in persistent AF and I now know that these sports watches algorithms get confused with AF and don’t display bpm accurately at all. I compared accuracy to a finger 02 sensor with bpm display that was 100% accurate with manual hr test. Calculate your heart rate manually to see if the watch is accurate ( if NOT in AF count bpm for 30 seconds and times result by 2; if IN AF, count bpm for full 60 seconds)
I think this is what happens when you become fixated on your heart rate and wear "gadgets" to monitor it. Time to put it way, don't you think?
I think your quite rite.👍👍
Hi Jet catI’ve got a smart watch set on heart rate. I was concerned as my bpm was averaging at 120 ish while walking and exercising in the woods. I asked my GP about it and this was his reply,,,” That’s fine when walking. Also, anything below 100 is your resting heart rate.” Hope this helps. They say that the magic number of ‘ maximum bpm is calculated by using the figure 220 minus your age. That’s the bpm that should be your maximum!’
Your HRM is probably reading your pulse by using red and green LEDs on the back of the HRM that measure variations in blood flow under the skin. Good ones like the Polar Vantage range can be quite accurate up to 130bpm, I haven't tried other makes. Slow recovery of heart rate can be that your cardio fitness hasn't caught up with your muscular fitness. Whilst you're not breathless, it might be worth checking your blood oxygen (SpO2) with an oximeter directly after a brisk walk. You could try slowly breathing in and out that may bring your heart rate down.
Thanks John boy, I appreciate that mate. Yeah I think you’re bang on with both points. My wrist monitor not the very best to be honest, Fitbit. And this last 6 months I haven’t done as much excersize as was doing before because of work.! I moved from manual work to office based so sat at computer instead of my usual gardening ground work so iv also probably got a little unfitter than before.??
