Lack of iron

I know that this isn't directly to do with AF however at a recent visit to my aptly named Heart Failure nurse, it was discovered I am anaemic and require iron intravenously at our hospitals RAMU. I'm afraid that I contacted Doctor Google to see what it entailed and have gotten myself all worked up! Has anybody been through this; am I worrying unnecessarily?

My heam.numbers were down to 6/7 a few years ago quite suddenly.Could hardly get out of bed.I did not need an intravenous transfusion although it was threatened. Took heavy dose of tablets for 3 days and blood count slowly began to climb. I thenhad lots of hospital checks and no reason was found for what hadhappened.Having said that see what other wise people here say about it.

Thank you Gingercats. I have been taking a concentrated iron course but it seems it wasn't enough. Hopefully this will help with the breathlessness and tiredness. I can always sleep through it!

Yes, years ago, I needed iron transfusions due to heavy uterine bleeding which has since been removed .

The transfusions were painless but wear a sweater and socks.... and bring a sweater or even a blanket! It is a very slow drip so make sure you have your favorite reads.

Thank you Aprilbday. That's pretty much what I thought. I am hoping for some instant energy at the end of it!

I have Ferritin infusions by having a drip. I had to go to hospital one morning and it took about an hour. It was painless and simple. Told that I'll need another in a years time. I felt so much better for it, i.e less tiredness for one thing.

Nothing to worry about so

hope it works well for you.

I've had 2 infusions, takes about an hour. No problems and was easy to do. 3 to 6 weeks to start feeling better.

Thank you for this. My mind is much more at rest than it was! Not in the least bit concerned about valve replacements or ablations but iron........
