I`m confused !
Regardless of whether you have irregularly irregular / regularly irregular (or was it the other way around !) it`s best to see a doctor. Even an irregular heart beat for a few hours could cause life changing problems if left untreated (rare but it can happen).
IMO people will read that and thing they might be OK if they clock somethings up. The space would have been much better used to raise AWARENESS of the condition.
Best,
Paul
Never trust medical articles in papers is my view. Yes ectopics etc are benign and do not generally get treated unless VERY persistent but these sorts of articles are a problem if it makes people think light of AF. Not all arrhythmias are AF and not all arhythmias need treating but lets be sensible here.
I've been told that I have permanent af and after reading the article it makes out that it's nothing to worry about and no mention of any problems that are associated with it.don't think that I'd like to go to see that doctor
Permanent AF is usually less of a problem for patients as the body gets used to it BUT is is important to control heart rate with drugs etc and provide anticoagulation as I am sure we all know. It is generally said that well controlled AF is not life ending but there will always be exceptions like those who die whilst trying to run a marathon!
A regular, irregularity is often Atrial Flutter and Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular, irregularity - it’s the pattern which shows on the ECG which I think (?) she is trying to describe, in the most convoluted, nonsensical, inaccurate way I have ever read!
If we are confused by that, how many less informed people will be!
There are different types of heart block. The one sometimes described as causing a regular irregularity is Mobitz type 1. The interval between atrial contraction and ventricular response (pr interval) gets progressively longer til a beat is dropped. The pattern is then repeated. Hence a regular irregularity. It should be diagnosed by an ECG and I would expect advice from a medical professional.
Is it being suggested in the article that Dr Miriam has AF?
