Hi all, does anyone else take flax seed. I know it is good for heart matters but is it ok for us AF people. X
Ground Flax Seed: Hi all, does anyone... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Ground Flax Seed
Yes, I use a level teaspoon of organic ground flaxseed each day in my home made muesli.
I started using a ground flaxseed with a small amount of Goji berry mix and chia seeds, a spoonful of each, to make an overnight oat breakfast.
thought ooh this is nice : ) Did it for about ten days then had an inr reading, it had shot up to 5.6!
I can’t say for sure it was this that caused it but when I checked both flaxseed and goji can cause interactions with warfarin (I did have slightly more than a level teaspoon though more a slight heaped teaspoon) so I changed to just porridge oats with oat milk and a small amount of sweetener.
So just be aware if on warfarin it may affect it...
I had to stop warfarin for two days then take a slightly lower dose.
It was just getting back to normal and my af came back and I was put on amiodarone and it’s shot up again! Having weekly appointments to try to get it back down : )
Hi there, I read that it can cause irregular heart beats. When I had my turn the other week. Non for 10 months and two in three weeks. I had just started having flax powder on my porridge. So!!!
It makes you think doesn’t it.... I’d really hate to think I’d brought my afib back through having those breakfasts. Most triggers don’t affect me but I had been painting ceilings and reaching up all day when it came back (typically after I’d sat down and relaxed) and now in afib it really does not like me reaching for anything...
I have a spoonful of flaxseed and hemp seed oil in the morning
The mix of flax and goji I had was really nice, I had it mixed in full fat natural yogurt as well some mornings and it was delicious. If I had not had the high reading I would still be using it.
I’d bought a new bag of both mix and chia the day before my high reading as well. Glad they weren’t expensive : )
Hi visitingcat can I just ask have you had abalation for your AFIB?
Not yet, when the afib came back I felt so ill one Sunday I went to a&e they kept me in overnight and the consultant on his rounds mentioned ablation in future but cardioversion as soon as possible, sent me home with amiodarone that was three weeks ago and just told it will be at least four weeks to it being done : (
I am supposed to have a follow up appointment with him and hope he says I can have an ablation.
Oh I hope you get your ablation soon how long have you been suffering with AF? is Amiodarone a beta blocker?
I think it will be a long wait to be honest... I am on bisoprolol plus the amiodarone, it’s a horrible drug, I will only be on it for three months I hope...
Hi,there, I was on amiodarone for I think six months but they said because of my age I would have to come off it. It did settle me down and I had no side effects at all. You must cover your head in the sunshine and not sunbathe. X I remember my daughter bought me a big hat that Summer.
Hi Gillybean
How long did the amiodarone take to settle you down if you don’t mind me asking? I have been on it for just over three weeks and my heart rate is still all over the place, it can go from 40’s to 130’s over a 30 second Kardia reading and is still hitting 160 after something as strenuous as a shower and hair wash.....
It does not seem to be helping yet, I’m seeing my gp tomorrow morning and picking up blood forms for tests so it will be interesting to see if it’s doing anything untoward.
It’s sent my inr really high too.
I’m really conscious of the sun blazing through the car windows after reading about people burning in their cars and sit there with scarves draped around me!
It wasn't very long at all. I took it in 2012 then I had an ablation February 2013. They told me on April 1st to stop all medication. I remember asking if I could just take half of one for safety. They wouldn't let me. They never let me go on it again. X
That's interesting re suspecting the flaxseed of causing your AF. I've probably been using it for about 3-4 months, but my AF came back on 1st August and has stayed with me. It never affected my warfarin level though, but I think I might give it a short break just to see if my AF goes.

It would be great if you have found a trigger for your AF, I hope taking a break works for you. I have started putting a search in now for anything new I fancy trying.
I remember trying quorn a few years back and thinking it was so healthy, it made my poor husband violently ill. When I searched it it was a common reaction...
Morning, I started using Flax seed on my porridge and then in my yoghurt which I thought was lovely. Then I had those two bouts of AF in three weeks. Have been wracking my brain to see what I had had. Then after researching I found flax can cause irregular heart beat. I have got two large bags in the cupboard. I think I know where they will be going. Ah well the joys of AF. I know that everything can cause something but it makes you think. X
Where did you find that flaxseed can cause AF?
Yes, will try again. Sorry.
