lidocaine?

A doctor is recommending I try a lidocaine patch for diagnostic reasons. Does anyone have experience with it or know if it is contraindicated for afib? It is apparently a sodium channel blocker. It is sold over the counter as IcyHot etc.

Thank you so much!

Intravenous lidocaine is used to terminate various arrhythmias and potentiates flecainide I believe. How a patch ( ?strength, ? absorbency) might help or hinder your A fib is a matter to discuss with yourcardiologist.

I have paroxsymal AFIB and I use use Germaloide Suppositories for Haemorrhoids which contain Lidocaine. No adverse impacts.

I am prescribed them for chronic back pain ( have used them for probably 20 years so both before and after AF and on various medication for AF) Not caused any problems for me. You should contact your cardio nurses and speak to your pharmacist

How well do they work for the back pain? I would like to find something that did not have to go through the digestive system for my back pain .

They work really well for me. I use them at night so that I can have some relief and manage to get off to sleep. It saves taking too many painkillers which are generally not good for the stomach.

Sounds good. I have stomach problems with all painkillers even Paracetamol. I will ask my GP about them the next time I go.

I appreciate hearing your experience, and am glad it has gone so well with you. I am cautious about medication and hearing a 20 year success is heartening. I understand some people have rebound pain with lidocaine patches, but it sounds like that is not the case for you.
