Hemp seed oil

I am keen on taking hemp seed oil as it's a good alternative to fish oil for omega 3 and no it's not cannabis but a relative of the plant and its being grown here in New Zealand where conditions are perfect for it

Does anyone know if it interacts with Warfarin?

I, as do many other people always use in cooking and as a salad oil and I take Apixaban. I really don’t think you need to worry if you are taking any natural food. CBD oil though is a completely different story. If you are the least unsure you should always ask your pharmacist who can look it up on professional websites.

Warfarin and Apixaban work I’m entirely different ways. Cannot assume that interaction/compatibility will be the same for each of them. Best to check with pharmacist using a professional data base.

Which is what I said.

If it's to do with Warfarin you're best speaking to a pharmacist and/or anticoagulation clinic/warfarin nurses.

I have asked my pharmacy and as its quite a new product here they are not quite sure yet if it interacts at all with warfarin.

They get red flag notification if something interacts with warfarin as in Turmeric but hemp seed oil nothing yet, i just thought some of you in other countries might already be aware of it

Hemp as a food product is not new here and is in all sorts of products, including drugs and supplements, protein powders are just one example so all I can say is that I have never seen or heard of any interactions or contraindications. I looked on my bottle of Hemp Oil and there were no warnings other than to keep cool and in a dark place. And I am a food freak as I read EVERY label and article to do with food and drugs.

Hemp & Flax are the same family (genus) - as Cannabis but a very different variety so chemically very different. If your Pharmacist says there is nothing listed - I would take that because the professional sites are normally international, aren’t they?

I am somewhat confused about this oil. How do you establish its strength and efficiency?

I looked on Amazon and eventually purchased some with a 5 🌟 rating. So far they haven't achieved anything!

Yesterday I received the new Saga magazine. There's an advertisement in there for CBD oil - 28 capsules for £33. They CANNOT be the same as the stuff I bought at that price.

We aren’t talking about CBD oil which comes from Cannabis sativa - see my reply above.

It’s a food product which I’ve used for 40 odd years.

The oil im referring to is produced here in New Zealand there is a link to its uses and remember everything is in $NZ dollars

I would avoid anything like this in a capsule - here I buy Hemp seed oil in my local supermarket - it’s about £12 for a large bottle, produced locally in N Devon

It looks like your guys also sell it as a straight forward cold pressed oil in a bottle. Much cheaper and better way of consuming it - I drizzle on cooked meals, roast potatoes in it, salad dressing etc. I take alongside fish oils - so as well as, not instead of as I need to increase my good fat intake for brain and heart health.

So similar price for the bottled oil your £12 converts to $24 and I have bought some, it has a nice nutty flavour and I've been told that it has a slight affect on INR the opposite to vitamin K so I will see if I can balance it out

Why would you avoid it in a capsule?

Several reasons - unless you know exactly what is in the gel coating I avoid as I have an autoimmune disease which some compounds can trigger. It also works out much more expensive per unit for the same amount and at the end of the day - like you - I like the taste so why hide it in a capsule? If I really cannot near the taste then I could see the reasoning. Of course the one benefit is you couldn’t overdose - a teaspoon a day is more than enough.

I love New Zealand! Wish I could live there. I eat hemp seeds and enjoy them in my quinoa. But I am not on blood thinners.
