Hi everyone, I don't eat fish, bought some ground flax seed yesterday to put on my porridge., I don't eat red meat at all nor sausages and very rarely bacon. Fish makes me cringe so thought I would add flax seed to my diet for the omega 3. Thought it might help my AF. Does anyone else eat it?
Flax Seed: Hi everyone, I don't eat... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Flax Seed
I try to take a spoonful of the ground flaxseed daily. I think it really helps my gut/digestion which for me is closely linked to my heart/AF. I haven’t had any issues with it at all - all good!!

Ground flax seeds are excellent when you need extra fibre .No idea if it helps AF.
Check this out...it does give you omega 3’s if you don’t eat fish. See #2
I have taken to having a tablespoonful everyday again recently, previously took it every day for a couple of years, for some reason didn’t both with it from June 2018 until May this year, in the ‘gap’ time I experienced five episodes of PAF,
I’ve been using it for years. Unfortunately it hasn’t made any difference to my AF!
Well then maybe it’s just me
wishful thinking/ looking for answers/coincidence...
I went to a plant based diet last year, have been using 3 tbs of ground flax seed on my oatmeal every morning. I lost 20 lbs and feel much better overall. My EP said I probably did as much to help my AF as his ablation did.
Red meat is meat as far as I am concerned as a recent study found that people eating chicken as opposed to beef, were no better off when it came to cholesterol count. Only the plant based diet group lowered there bad cholesterol and raised the good one.
However I'm still in the camp that agrees with the saying that - there are those that like bacon and those that are wrong.
Hi there, did you follow any particular info. Re a plant based diet?
No diet plan and God knows how many are out there. I simply stopped eating meat and dairy. I do eat fish 2 or 3 times a week, mostly Salmon.
I miss the cheese but will have a bit of ice cream on my berries occasionally. I also eat more nuts know.
What I found most interesting about this, is that it wasn't difficult and I didn't feel hungry or deprived.
Ground flax seeds and chia seeds are both high in Omega 3s and other wonderful things. I put both in my smoothies along with Kale and blueberries every day. Not sure if it has helped my Afib, I haven't had an episode in 10 months since my ablation, but the chia seeds and ground flax seed can't hurt!
Thank you for making us aware of the benefits of Flaxseed. I have just looked it up on my usual supermarket website and will buy some this weekend.
Mix flaxseed with cinnamon along with yogurt and kifer ... the night before ... allow it to sit out all night without refrigeration ... have it the next morning prior to tea or coffee ... regulates cholesterol and is really healthy. Have this on a daily basis.
I have been putting a spoon of flaxseed on my porridge every morning for many years (didn't stop me getting AF) but would just like to point out that after looking into it, it appears that flaxseed and linseed are nutrionally the same but linseed is a fraction of the price. When you start using it, use it with caution at first because it is high in fibre !!
