Tooth extraction

Good morning , campers!

Thought I'd share this, had a planned wisdom tooth extraction on Monday at our local dental hospital. Having recently also had an apiectomy there for a large abcess,I was a little surprised not to receive a medical form prior to extraction but assumed the previous one was still valid.

Got into the surgery room ,same surgeon as before who seemed very interested in the tooth he did previously,I had mentioned to the receptionist that I thought it was still healing as get some discomfort now n then. Took X-ray..all well...started ushering me out!

So ..ermm.the wisdom tooth?... He looked blank...anyway long story short..mistake had been made in the referral process. However he was prepared to go ahead as I had been waiting 4 weeks for this

Quick x-ray..ok...then he started to prepare numbing syringe...I piped up..No adrenaline of course!( Blank look..) I have AFib and Flutter....and don't worry I followed the same instructions for the Apixaban as before..

He reeled a bit .....called for substitute stuff ...took it out no problems.

As I sat recovering I could hear a lively exchange going on in the office!!

Moral of the story..double check what you are down for, double check they have your health details..!

I am always very interested when I read about no adrenaline injections.I have PermAfib. and have never had problems with ordinary injections. I do appreciate we are all different but am I the only one whose heart does not kick up a fuss when I have the ord. stuff?

So glad you had the wherewithal to mention adrenaline free anaesthetic. I have had the most awful experiences with adrenaline before I changed dentists and had someone who actually thought about it.

This lack of communication happens too regularly in my opinion.

There was a very scary news article a couple of days ago describing a poor chap who went into hospital for a cystoscopy and was circumcised in error.

There are some awful tales.

Trouble is that so many poor folk are incapable of fighting their corner.

Agree - whole heatedly. Every one needs to be pro active where health issues are concerned. In most instances people with A Fib generally to others do not have anything to advertise there condition. Best practice- double/triple check with health care practitioners. My grand dad used to use the slogan "better safe than sorry". Ed. 1532

How long did it take to extract the tooth ?

wilsond profile image

About 10 minutes. Felt nothing, had 4 stichrs after as he said would help it heal.As I'm on Apixaban, the clotting/ healing process would be interuppted and I'd end up with a Dry Socket which is a Very Unpleasant Thing apparently!
