Thank you AF Association and Healthunlocked

I just wanted to say how grateful I am to this site. I have been struggling such a lot with breathlessness following my ablation on the 1st of July, it is affecting my whole life at the moment but searching this site I came across such a lot of posts saying the same even from 2 years ago. Brilliant, I am so pleased they didn’t get removed after such a long time they are soooo helpful. I hope some of those repost on how well they are now compared with then!

I can remember having an ablation early June and then going on a trip to London a few months later in the following August. I found I could only do so much walking and then would become totally exhausted and could barely go a step further. Often it was as though someone had just turned my energy switch off .

Walking with my daughter and her husband makes me breathless too, they go at such a fast pace!

When I feel the breathlessness coming on now, which it does sometimes although it's 3 years since my third ablation, I take lots of deep breaths and that helps me recover quicker.

It's still very early days for you. Do you find you get days when you feel really well and then days when you're extremely tired? That's how I used to be and still am now to some extent.

This is such an amazing forum isn't it! Where else would you ever get such fantastic, reassuring support! So glad I found it many years ago.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Jean

Hi Jean, yes that is exactly how I am, how reassuring it is to read your post. I could hug you. I thought I was going mad and something was going on. Did you also feel uncomfortable in your chest? Quite a few people on other posts have also said how the EP or cardiologist make you feel that you should be better in weeks!!! Brilliant site. Denise x

I asked the registrar, before I had my first ablation 8 years ago, how long it would be before I could do long walks and climb mountains again and he said a few days! What a laugh! Thankfully these medical professionals are far better informed these days!

Me too! I'm nearly a month since my ablation and still feel breathless and tired but better than last week - this forum has been so helpful - I too was under the impression from the medical team that I would be back to reasonable exercise by now but I'm nowhere near that. At least I'm back to work now although its hard.

I went back to work 3 weeks after the ablation (I only work 2 days a week) and felt so exhausted, which just isn’t me at all. I won’t stop now I am back but I wish I had taken a bit longer. I am having good and bad days. I’ll still keep going though heading for the time when I can at least run upstairs without feeling I so breathless. Baby steps

I kept the advice sheet I was given on discharge from hospital after ablation just for a laugh. It said recovery would take a few days. I took that seriously, 10 days later did the Christmas prep and cooking, then had more family to stay over New Year 🙄 Then I got a chest infection, pneumothorax, followed by a severe bowel infection......A few days 😂

I am fine now, smallest dose of Diltiazem and still get the odd wobble if I catch a bug but breathing is good.

I hope you feel better soon X

So pleased to hear you are better now. It all seems such a long road to recovery. Has the ablation given you other health issues?

No, health issues improved because I don't have the nasty side effects from the medication.

Invaluable and enlightening I agree. How so many people with so many varied backgrounds and differences can also find so many similarities with treatment plans and procedures.
