I'm going in for an ablasion tomorrow morning and I'm terrified abt it but feel that I must have it since I'm so systematic to the medications.. I would like to hear everyone's experience with the ablasion, could you feel your heart racing during it? Do you feel anything during the procedure and what should I expect to feel afterwards? Thank you in advance and I will give you an update when I get back home.
Ablasion tomorrow!: I'm going in for an... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Ablasion tomorrow!
If you have GA you will know nothing. Best way.. If you haev sedation theh m ake sure you tell them you need more if things are able to be felt. Please read out fact sheet on recovering from ablation which we have told you about before as these will help you at least know what to expect during recovery.
There is no need to be terrified. The unknown is always scary but you need to relax, trust your medics and go with the flow. You will be fine!
Hi, just picked up your post, bet you are already being sorted. Good luck. Hope all goes well. Best thing I did x
Don't worry, I had cryoablation under sedation and everything went smoothly. The EP and staff in Edinburgh were absolutely brilliant and explained everything they were going to do. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I didn't feel anything or remember much about it except when I felt loud pounding in my chest and heard myself saying "what the hell was that", then I remember nothing. I was back in the ward before I new it and awake but kept nodding off during the time where I had to lie still so the entry point for the catheter in my groin had time to settle down. Basically I remember nothing much about the procedure and took it slowly when I got home. Done nothing for the first couple of weeks then started 15 minute walks and built them up over the next few weeks. Don't be tempted to go back to work withing a couple of weeks as it can take months to get your strength back. Don't be afraid, for me it was definately worth it. I have been free of AF for a year now. All the best.
Awe don’t worry....I worried before and now I know it wasn’t necessary....soon be over....the groun May feel uncomfortable as you lie stillafter fir a few hours....that’s all.....once home rest rest rest! You May get migraine headaches the week after, I did and the fact sheet mentions it.....but it passes....main thing is you will feel normal but must remember the heart needs to heal....Sue
I had GA so felt nothing. When I came round I had a lot of back pain because of another medical condition and the hour or two having to lie still after was very uncomfortable.
I enjoyed being looked after in my 2 week recovery period
All the best, it will all be worth it
It’s normal to be afraid - I considered doing a runner from the waiting room. I didn’t and that was 2013 and I have been free of af since then. It took about 5 months for all bumps and arrhythmias to stop so bd prepared to rest. Tiredness and lethargy may be your companions for a while but hopefully it will be worth it.
Good luck 🍀👍
I had my ablation a week ago and was very nervous too. One week on and only mild discomfort and getting back to normal routine.
I had a general anaesthetic so no problem with racing heart.
You have to lay still for a few hours afterwards to allow the wound in the groin to heal but other than that no problems.
Good luck - am sure you will be fine
As already stated if you have GA you will feel nothing. I knew nothing from beginning to end. The procedure went better than I expected. I was overly nervous about everything. It was such a relief when it was said and done --as it will be for you.
