6hr Ablation.. Check

Well had the ablation 9.30am at Freeman Newcastle today and all I can say is wow .

Had Stephen Murray do the necessary and what a nice guy, and true professional . Took 6 hours which I didn't expect, with a new mapping system seemingly since I last spoke to him. The guy who was the tech for the mapping system was in on op for some reason, and the whole team in the cath lab still patient and friendly answering questions after 5 or so hours can't be faulted ,contending with me wide awake seemingy after massive doses of happy juice asking loads of questions and watching the mapping and of my heart etc ๐Ÿ˜‚, very impressed (on the team not the happy juice) I think . Got to say didn't experience that much pain, had worse at dentist ! nothing like I thought it would be, and they all cheered when I went into NSR well into the Cryoablation, I instantly felt it, no shocks/paddle , just seemingly super consistent heart rate.

Been on ward since 4pm , had a cuppa and sandwich, feel good just chest a tiny bit sore, stitch out of groin, all good, looking forward to some sleep.

Home tomorrow and realise no matter how good I feel its do nothing for week or two see how it plays out.

Anyone thinking of ablation! / sedation or scared by it, don't be, I was very worried, and tbh would go for it tomorrow again if I need to and I'm no hero, it really isn't that bad at all trust me .

Thanks for all messages of support and kindness always found in here, it really has helped me focus and gave me comfort . Il keep you all updated with progress, and no doubt I have some rocky days ahead I'm under no illusions , but so glad it's over with and take my chance of getting some normal life back .

Great news, glad it went well. Must have been very interesting watching and hearing what was going on. That would have interested me but the happy juice worked so well I was asleep for the most part, just brief episodes of wakefulness.

Rest, rest and a bit more rest now.

All the best

Hi

So pleased for you and hope it works well. Maybe I can now move up Stephen Murray 's list as been waiting for 10 months. Also pleased to hear that they have a new mapping system which should help as this will be my second ablation. 6 hours seems a long time...was that because of the new mapping system?

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66โ€ข in reply torothwell

They seemed to spend a long time mapping so presume it was, was trying to take it all in but a lot going on to be honest. He's a lovely guy and the cath lab staff couldn't be better very caring.

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66โ€ข in reply torothwell

Won't be disappointed, he's definitely on his game and such a nice guy. Yes the new kit and the procedure was different seemingly with more work and mapping with work on parts they don't usually do, said its higher rate of success.

You toughed it out and prevailed. The resting bit, well take advantage of it while you can as once you are back to full fitness it will be all go again but without the threat of heart faffing about. Yay. X

Never having had an ablation I read other members' accounts avidly and I am so pleased that everything went so well for you. And a super-friendly team must be the icing on the cake. Please come back during your recovery and let us know how you are. Best wishes.

Honesty it isn't nowhere near as bad as your mind makes it, if you have the chance go for it, especially if it involves a team like Dr Murray and Co.

Brilliant!

So pleased everything went well. So interested me as Iโ€™ve had a six and a seven hour ablation under GA. Would have been so scared to be awake if I have another but you have put my mind at rest thank you.

Ianp66โ€ข in reply toETFCfan

Honestly if I can anyone can, sedation is fine, it's like having a good drink and relaxing at the dentist of that makes sense, really it's nothing to be afraid of.

Steven Murray is a great guy. I had my ablation at the Freeman 18months ago and like you was very impressed with the standard of care and supportive attitude of all the staff. Follow up appointments with Steve and his staff have also been excellent. Though I still take some meds Iโ€™ve been in sinus for well over a year. Long may it continue.
