I am travelling to America very soon for 2 weeks and recently wondered how i would get on with taking non prescription tablets ie Magnesium Taurate & Hi-5 Electrolyte tabs.

I rely on these almost daily

Does anyone have any experience?

Why not contact the US Embassy as they should know all the ins and outs of what may or may not get you arrested. I think anecdotal evidence a little risky.

Hmm, don't think I'd have given it a thought and just packed the tablets in their original containers in my suitcase. Will be interesting to see what others have to say. My sister lives in the States and is coming over here for a holiday in a few weeks, I'll give her a call a little later (when she's out of bed) and ask if she knows.

Sister has said put them in a clear plastic bag and take them in your hand luggage, but make sure they're all in their original packaging.

And in the original sealed containers. I had Marvel powdered milk that I had put into a plastic bag when going to New Zealand and it was confiscated. They said it would have been OK if it was sealed.

They have signs up at Washington State borders saying that you cannot take apples in case they infect their crops.

I did manage to take an opened jar of marmalade over the border from Washington State into Canada. The customs officer commented. " You British and your Marmalade "

Not a controlled substance. Shouldn't be any problem.

I do not see a problem with you traveling with either medication, I know someone that traveled from Canada to UK with both of theirs drugs no problem either leaving or return

I travel to the USA very frequently and always take all my drugs in hand luggage. Never had a problem and been doing it for at least 10 years.

I live in the US and have traveled extensively around the world. I have never had any issues anywhere with both prescription and over the counter meds. I often travel with my meds in a simple pill case, but using original containers would be best. Currently there is great concern about opioids in the US so that could raise a red flag if you are carrying larger quantities than you need for your stay.

Enjoy your trip!!
