Alone and scared.. Ablation on Friday :(

I am scared and lonely and tired of feeling like a burden to my family because of all my health conditions. I have an ablation on Friday they say this will help me a lot but after so many years of trying medication after medication and physical therapy and holistic medicine Etc I'm afraid to get my hopes up. I feel like I'm surrounded by a ton of people but completely alone. I get asked how are you doing everyday by my husband and all I can do is say I'm fine... because I'm too tired to even talk about how I feel. And I'm so tired of everybody telling me to pray about it that I could come to them that they're there for me but when I really need them time and time again they are not they're they're busy or they don't answer the phone.

Well you're alone no more, as you now have all of us on this forum for support.

We understand AF completely and know exactly what you are going through, it really is a horrid condition and I understand your despair. However, there are so many things that can help improve symptoms and you are scheduled for one of the main ones this Friday. Not everyone gets the chance to have an ablation, so you are one of the lucky ones.

I don't think any words will take away your apprehension, but please believe me when I say an ablation is nowhere near as bad as you are probably thinking.

Will be thinking of you on Friday.

Big reassuring hug.

Jean

I really agree with the post above. I am new on here too. I had an ablation two months ago and my heart has been brilliant since then. I was awake for my ablation. The staff are marvellous and we are given good pain relief and sedation and they really understand that we are frightened . Please be reassured that it really is not as bad as one imagines. Have a gentle hug . We know what you are going through.

Hi Miapotsie19, you have found possibly the best place to sound off, express your fears and have a good old grumble if you need to. It sounds like you have been suffering for a long time, and your physical problems will no doubt have had an impact on your confidence and self esteem, as well as feeling so tired and fed up.

It's great you're scheduled to have an ablation now, I wish you all the best for that, and hope that with time many of your other health conditions will be sorted out as well. Please come back and let us know how you're doing when you get the chance. Don't forget to rest up and take it easy for at least a couple of weeks after your procedure, that's very important.

Sending virtual hugs and many good wishes, Kate

In the world of sport we face many fears...Failure, Injury etc etc however, when the dust has settled and the battle is over we often ponder what the hell we feared ? what the hell we worried about......A short quote we always remind ourselves of when times are difficult.........

"You can conquer almost any fear if you only make up your mind to do so. For fear doesn't exist anywhere except in the mind"

You'll be fine all the very best.

The way I have had to look at it, over the years, is that all of my physical ailments and troubles were like false mountain tops. It looked like the top of the mountain until another trouble cropped up. Ablation is the mountain top and you will have access to a new sight about your physical condition. For instance, when I was in my early thirties, I developed a bad case of hypoglycemia. The hypoglycemia sped up my heart which eventually put me in Afib. Then when I had my third ablation, the hypoglycemia stopped. Really though, I just had had Afib all along. Having an ablation will give you tremendous insight.

I don't think there was anyone more scared of having an ablation than me. I know exactly how you are feeling at the moment.

I was ready to get off the table as they wheeled me in to the cath lab

Honestly though, it was nowhere near as bad as I had built it up in my head.

They would not be doing the procedure if they did not think it would be a success.

2 years on I am still in NSR and so grateful to the skilled team that did mine. Best decision I ever made.

All the best for yours , and rest , rest, rest!

Best wishes for Friday. I so understand how you feel and isolation through an illness is so upseting and debilitating. It's hard to see a good future when health is badly compromised. You have my empathy and I wish you well for your ablation. You are among friends here, we all understand and will support your journey. This site is a amazing so never feel truly alone from now on. X

Mia.....I am so sorry that you are experiencing the feelings....but please know that you are not alone. Many of us experience the exact same feelings. Try to keep as positive as you can because your mental state does affect your physical results. I am dealing with all kinds of crap....retirement after a 40 year nursing career, and the unfortunate event of my 44 year old son

Dying from a pulmonary embolism......totally unexpected. He was a health nut. I won’t go into all of the other bombs that I have dodged in the past 2 years. Find a Support group... come back here..just know that you are not alone.

Good luck for Friday. I had my one and only ablation in November 2013 and still AF free.

Remember to take things really slow for the first couple of weeks. Then gradually doing more - gentle walks etc. It took 5 months for my heart to heal/settle down after ablation but then no more AF. So try to stay positive, read lots and be your own expert.

Good luck 🍀

Just know you are not alone.

Wishing you Good Luck , sending you lots of positive energy for Friday 🍀 Make sure you tell your EP your fears, as there is lots that they can do to help that aspect.I was completely open with mine last year for my ablation, as although I trusted him totally, I was extremely nervous. Such HUGE relief after when they knew what the issues were and how to deal with them. Don’t feel alone, you can reach us all here from

Your phone! I only found this site post ablation, wish that I had found it before!

Hi. Just had my second ablation last Tuesday, so am still in the “stop doing stupid things” phase (my wife’s words, not mine). Having has three between us, they can’t have been THAT bad, can they? Well worth the inconvenience for the long term gain. Thinking of you for tomorrow

Hi Mia

If it helps all the things you are feeling /experiencing at the moment are quite normal I would say.

I had the Op for afib and atrial flutter 10 months ago. I was awake throughout the procedure which is an experience but your in good hands with all those experts around you.

The first thing I noticed was I slept the whole night for a first time the night after my op and was back in work 2 weeks later.

14 weeks after that I was off all my meds and back in the gym ( not going mad) but certainly having a good workout.

To date all is good and it’s like having a new lease of life without the experience of dragging around a large weight.

It’s definitely worth going through to get yourself back on track.

Hope it all goes well

Regards

Don’t be lonely as unless someone has afib or any sort of problem themselves, it’s just that they don’t understand as they can’t actually see what is happening, ie like chicken pox which shows spots, or a broken leg in a cast. You know everyone on this forum understands and that we all care for each other. Your family and friends do care for and about you, but sometimes find it hard to show their feelings or what to say and really other than saying how are you every day there isn’t a lot they can actually do. Best wishes xx

Thank you everyone for all your support.. I went in for the ablation after 2 hours of mapping and a scary experience the doc stopped and said he couldnt do the ablation because it was too close to some pathway and I would have walked out of there with a pacemaker which would thwn give me heart failure in 5 years so he stopped... I was devastated.. I was so hopeful for a cure a way to get better.. Now I'm sad.. Now we start from ground up again. I have to just manage with meds and it just gets me by.. I also was diagnosed with dysautonomia. I'm 41 and I hate my quality of life.. I want to just give up!

Though your ablation has not been the step forward you had wanted, try to be hopeful for there have been so many medical advances in recent years. This continues and you may yet be able to reap benefits that are not available right now.

That must have been so disappointing for you, but you know new procedures relating to helping AF, are being discovered all the time. So please don't give up hope. For now really try the healthy, plant based diet etc.

Best wishes

Jean

Oh no. What can I say to help. I’m 75 and have good days and bad days but I manage and you will too.

Big hugs.
