Hi

The above link was emailed to me as it had quite an interesting short article regarding triggers for AFib. Although nothing especially new was identified, nevertheless I thought it was interesting and decided to share.

Interesting link Mary. For me lack of sleep seems to be the biggest trigger. Beer (in moderation) is OK. One coffee in the morning is fine. Drinking plenty of water is important to all a-fibbers.

Regarding cold drinks. I`ve read that doing this can put you back in sinus if you have an a-fib attack ? Even eating an ice lolly can help ?

I think everyone is different. The key is to know what your personal triggers are and avoid them.

Best,

Paul

I am like you, Paul - it is lack of sleep that affects me the most. I agree with you regarding drinking plenty of water and in the last couple of weeks I have been consciously trying to increase my intake. However, I have been quite poor today so thank you for the reminder and I will now take myself off to have a large glass of water :)

Good idea Mary ;-)

For me I drink loads of water in the day. I maybe have 4 or 5 litres every day without fail.

The favored mineral water you can buy is lovely. Worth buying and cheap as well. Just as nice as a cuppa.

Well not quite but it`s worth a try ;-)

Best,

Paul

PS - 4 or 5 litres a day is when I work abroad (hot country). I bet I`m not to far off that in the UK though. I make a point now of not being dehydrated.

Best,

Paul

The coffee intake and afib is very controversial. Big studies found out that there is no correlation. Look here:

Thanks for sharing the article. I found it interesting that the research was prompted by patients wanting more info on triggers. Apart from alcohol I don't think the medical folk 'believe' in triggers. I guess because it's so variable it is difficult to substantiate. Nonetheless I think they (our docs and nurses) could advise on common triggers as listed in the article especially for patients newly diagnosed to have a think about. in particular maintaining a good fluid intake. My cardiologist just said don't look for triggers it'll drive you mad. Not sure what my EP thinks as I only met him on the day of my ablation. I'll ask at my follow up.

😀
