Wot? No Metoprolol......

Wightbaby profile image
35 Replies

Just been to pick up my monthly prescription........pharmacist told me I CANNOT have Metoprolol anymore, because there is a "manufacturing problem", so I must contact my GP and get him to prescribe an alternative!!!

Great! I have been taking it for over 5 years, with no issues, so I am obviously anxious, as well as cross........what a way to find out!?! There must be others affected by this, not just me???

It didn't help, that earlier i had visited my GP surgery for INR check, only to be told by the nurse that she couldn't do it, because there weren't any STRIPS in the whole building!!

I am not having a good day!!

Oh no! Can you contact the manufacturer directly? Another pharmacy in the meantime who may still have stock?

Pharmacies seldom keep stock nowadays they operate on "Just in time basis" and keep minimum stocks.

Oh!!!thats that theory out the window!!

My wife was prescribed 300 mg coated aspirin last week and our local Kamson only had 18 left in a 28 packet. One of their two warehouses did not have stock.

As mentioned elsewhere the Teeva version of Losartan have been unobtainable recently. The last twice I have had other makes. The Teeva warehouse is about two miles away and is the one usually stocked by the pharmacy.

Kamson....???.

not heard of them....whereabouts are you, if you don't mind saying?

I'm in East Sussex but they are quite well spread around. They are extremely efficient in issuing prescriptions unlike Boots. They have a large mainly East European staff in our area any rate.

Their prices for other things are also pretty good compared to most pharmacies.

Perhaps they will cross the water to you one day.

I don't believe it (and I'm not Victor Meldrew). The times I've been told this by my pharmacist and I've proved them wrong. Give Accord a call in Barnstaple North Devon on 01271 385200 they make Actavis brand Metoprolol. They're extremely helpful and if you say where you live they'll tell you what stockist in your area your pharmacy can get them from.

Thank you jeajjeannie50 for the contact number..

I've been searching around the various Pharmacies to find remaining stock.

Metoprolol suits me very well as I have no negative side effects, also as my dose is 25mg 3 times a day. With the option of leaving off the midday 25mg if my pulse rate drops too low.

Thank you Jean, I will try them as my GP surgery has just said they can't get Actavis Flecainide, which I have been taking for 5 years without a problem - anybodies guess as to why such a problem unless the company is in financial difficulties.

Thanks for that...only trouble is, after I "posted", we went away for the weekend and I have only just got back on here (Sunday evening), and it's looking like everybody else is going to phone them first and there will be none left for me!!! : (

I will let you know.......

They suit me so well, I am really reluctant to change and mess everything up!!

They are really helpful and polite and have always been able to tell me what wholesale stockist has them, in my area, where my pharmacy can get them.

Hi WB I collected my usual monthly dose last Saturday 1 March from Boots in Freshwater 01983 752724. Might be worth giving them a call.

I too have issues with Pradaxa and Disopyramide, the pharmacy have great difficulty in getting both so what next I ask?

This seems to be a problem with lots of meds. I had the same problem a while back. So I started to put in prescription at least a week before I need it, with the result that over time I have built a stock where I am a month in advance.

Thats my cunning plan too! Have a little safety net now...alzo keeping bits of string and brown paper ready for March 29th.....!

When I was first diagnosed with Afib, they put me on Atenolol. A year later, a new doc switched me to Metropolol. I didn't notice any difference.

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50

Oh no!!!! Sorry to hear that. Did they say why there was a shortage?

jeanjeannie50 profile image

It always amazes me when we've been on a drug for years and use the same pharmacy, why when you collect one they don't get another pack in, ready for you next time.
