Well, despite all the suggestions etc., from kind friends on here, I was unable to get hold of any Metoprolol……even the factory said they did not know when they would have it again, so I had to admit defeat.
My GP has prescribed BISOPROLOL. He said it’s better (well, I guess he would?!!, and I have been taking 1.25mg once a day, for just over a week. The transition was better than I expected, apart from an occasional whoosh (in my head, not my heart!) when it “kicks in” in the mornings! I am actually sleeping better and haven’t got such a drippy nose either!
However, at my follow up appointment on Wednesday, GP suggested that he might increase the dose, as my pulse was just over 80 and he would like it a bit lower. I asked him if we could wait a week or two to see if it settles down, as I am a bit dubious that a stronger dose might turn me back I to a snail!
He said BP was OK at about between 110 and 120/75
Any thoughts, anyone?

My hubby got the doctor to split his dose of bisoprolol because it was affecting him quite badly (I seem to be okay on it). So he takes half the dose in the morning and half at night and feels better for it.
I'm on 2.5mg Was very sluggish when first on them I guess I'm not one to tell you what to do We are all individuals I know doctor at hospital when first prescribed them said not to take if pulse went below 55
Hi WB I’ve been on Metoprolol Tartrate for about 10 years (3 x 75mg daily) and am due my monthly repeat from Boots next Friday. Nobody’s been in touch about this so I shall be a bit miffed if I have to make an urgent appointment with a GP if they’ve run out. Thanks for the heads up - think I’ll drop into Boots Monday to find out the state of play. Good luck with the bisoprolol but it really shouldn’t be necessary to go chasing this around. I have absolutely no desire to change what my body has got used to!
Popular opinion seems to be that it was totally wrong for me to find out that Boots could not fulfil my prescription, until I turned up to collect it. They should have phoned and SAID there was a problem.........say I had not any Meto left at all!! (their attitude left a lot to be desired also..!!)
Please let me know, how you get on and the outcome for you? Perhaps freshwater Boots is a bit more user friendly??
Admit I will be miffed if you are lucky enough to get some!!!
Normal HR is 60 to 100 so 80 would not be damaging IMHO. Increasing Bisoprolol may decrease your QOL again IMHO. New Forest a bit too far for coffee even for my speed machine but thanks for the invite.
I have the same BP as you and also a drippy nose (whatever that's about!) but I thought that I could perhaps reassure you about the Bisoprolol. I maintain my lifelong resting pulse rate of 60bpm (except when in AF) and I am on 5mg twice a day.....
I would personally give it a fortnight and then perhaps gradually increase?
I take 5mg Bisoprolol once a day, have never had symptoms and a resting pulse of 40. My A.F. is mostly under control (if I’m careful with booze!) - when in A.F. pulse rarely gets above 120 - wonder if I should reduce my dose?
Now you have me thinking......I do NOT do alcohol at all...but, of course, after your comment, I am wondering whether I could treat myself to the odd glass of red wine......I DO miss it!
Probably not....cholesterol is slightly high and GP banging on about statins now, which I am trying to ignore!
Grr! Thanks for that......feel a bit like I have been hoodwinked! Still at least, if I don't get on with the new meds, I can go back and kick a***! So to speak!!
I think that what he meant to say was "it's cheaper"
I have been getting monthly repeats from Boots at Freshwater for years - I suspect they keep just enough for customers who have repeats on a regular basis. Off to the surgery again today for something completely different- oh the joys of old age😀
