Just had my annual check-up with my EP. I had a pacemaker fitted in Dec,. 2016. Everything went OK for 9 months and then A/F returned. I then had an AV Node ablation in June 2018 and (touch wood), everything seems alright. One of the drugs I am on is Bisoprolol 10mg and have been for the last 7 yrs. Before going into the theatre for my AV Node Ablation I was told I would be able to stop taking the Amiodarine and the Bisoprolol, but after the Ablation was told to stop the Amiodarine only. My EP has suggested gradually reducing the dose. My only concern is why would they have changed their minds after the Ablation. Any thoughts??? Hope you can follow all of this.

Not Sure What To Think
Perhaps it was needed after the heart had had so much disturbance with the AV node ablation, or your blood pressure may have been high. They may have intended for you to stay on it just for a few months, but then that intention was forgotten as sometimes these things are.
All purely guesses.

Not sure if you have been told to “gradually reduce” the Amiodarone or the Bisoprolol. It’s common to reduce large doses of Bisoprolol gradually. Otherwise not a lot of point second guessing your EP.
oyster,
I stopped the Amiodarone straight away but my concern was their change of mind re:- the Bisoprolol straight after my Ablation.
I had my av node ablation 12 days ago, I was taking 1.25mg Bisoprolol
and was told to stop taking it immediately. Maybe it was because it was
such a low dose. Others on this site and have been told to stop their dose gradually.
May I ask how long it took you to recover enough to feel that you were
back to normal.
Thanks
I had a pacemaker and AV node ablation last year and gradually went off the beta blocker. Feels so much better. Only on Apixaban now.
Best decision ever.
Probably because the dose of Bisoprolol is high you would need to wean off it slowly . Some people who have stopped Bisoprolol suddenly have had symptoms of high heart rate and anxiety.
