Pacemaker finally in

Well I finally had the pacemaker implanted yesterday. It was not as straightforward as I had anticipated as the cardio could not get the wires into the right place because of scar tissue from my previous ablations. He did succeed eventually, but the whole thing took much longer and that meant much more sedative and morphine. Took me some time to come out of that zombie state, but today I am home again, fragile, but feeling back in the world. Stage 2, the ablate coming, but I will think about that later!

I’m glad you’re ok. It seems a lot of things aren’t straight forward in life and we have to some how take things as they come. Just focus on feeling better and healing as you take it easy. I think you’re doing great.

Dear Melleray

Glad that bit is over with the ablation shouldn't be a problem.

I had a pacemaker fitted three weeks ago followed by an ablation two days later. The area where the pacemaker was fitted swelled up to the size of a grapefruit but I'm told it will go down in two to three months.

Nice to be free of most of the AF symptoms although still on Bisoprolol, ramapril. Apixaban & furosemide.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Speedy recovery.

If you are having a node ablation don’t worry mine was very quick.

I had the procedure at 1.00pm back home at 7.30 same day.

Good luck to you I hope you feel as well as I do

Hello - thanks for your reply. I am also taking Sotalol, 80mg x2 daily. I tried Flecainide but it made my arrhythmia worse. I have PAF and do not have bradychardia , and in between AF episodes I felt quite well. So after having the PM fitted in Bristol a couple of days ago, I do not feel any different than usual. I opted for the PM because when I did get an episode I could not move or my pulse would race to 250+. As with all of us , I never knew when it was going to strike and it was very limiting. So next thing is the AV node ablation, although I would rather not have it.

I too was on sotolol prior to my AV node ablation after having PM fitted 2.5 years ago and then it stopped working. In my opinion drugs only last so long.

AV ablation is the last step but so far so good

I have suffered from AF for 20 years tried all the drugs and had 3 ablations and was told that in my case they didn’t work.

Not being on drugs now i feel better than I have done for years.

I am really glad for you that you feel better. I too, have had AF for 20 years and have had 5 ablations. Drug control was not enough - in fact I often wonder if it was doing anything at all for me. Hope you continue to feel well.

Hi again - can I ask you another question? When you had the AV node ablation and your heart was being paced just by the PM, does it feel any different to a normal NSR feeling? I have read that PM pacing is different to normal NSR .

Not really the only sensation I feel is sometimes I feel my heart beat in my lower left back but I only have to slightly move my seating position and it goes I never feel it standing or walking. It’s probably one of the leads to close to a nerve.

I am pleased I had the procedure but you must take time to make sure that it is right for you ask your EP all the questions you have doubts about. I had my procedure done at the Bristol Heart Institute and they are excellent.

Hi, Know just how you feel I had one fitted mid September and mine

ran into similar problems. Im afraid it didnt resolve any of my symptoms

but it was worth a try. Recovered quite well, slowly does it, but I still

find sleeping an problem laid on my left side, I make a little cushion

out of a soft scarf and that helps. I think its beause I havent much meat

on me so they have no place to lodge it.

I had my av node ablation 12 days ago, took much less time and Im

finding my recovery slow. I admit to being bit impatient, I just want to

get going again. I had no pain whatsoever during the ablation so nothing

to worry about there.

Hope all goes well, rest.....

Hi - thank you for your message and I do hope that you soon feel much better, more like yourself again. Can I ask you the same question as I have asked Teignfisher above - does PM pacing feel any different to natural NSR?
