I have been suffering from AFib since 2011 with on-and-off symptoms until 2018 when it became permanent.
And, as I’m too sensitive to med's side effects, they don’t help my AFib symptoms anyway, my life has become unbearable. So, I have taken the last resort to ease my dilemma (I’m 85 y. o. woman) and I have the AV node ablation in a couple of weeks. I have already had a pacemaker put in two weeks ago.
Any comment regarding the above would be much appreciated.

I’m sorry to hear of your struggles. I’ve not got a pacemaker but can sympathise with the drug side-effects you’ve experienced. I’ve been in persistent AF since February after some years of paroxysmal AF and finding a drug I can tolerate has been challenging to say the least!
I’ve read of a good few folk on the forum for whom a pacemaker and AV node ablation have been life-changing and has given them their lives back. I’m sure some will be along to share their stories soon. I sincerely hope it works for you, too.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Eight years ago I found myself in the same position as yourself, I had the Av node ablated and a pacemaker put in. There were a few uncomfortable times, mainly getting used to the new meds as I had a Medtronic CRP device put in, nothing in the grand scale of things that were anything other than 'to be expected'. I can safely say that the quality of my life has improved hugely and that I have absolutely no doubt that it was the right decision. I am 74 years old. With very best wishes that the same will apply to yourself.
I had PAF since 1996 and had a Pacemaker fitted in 2020 then a/V node ablation in May 2022 they stopped all heart meds Flecainide and diltziam and just had BP meds Irbesartan and Amlodipine stopped the latter as had swollen ankles I also am on warfarin I had one adjustments to rate control and that was it . I am 85years old and still have a good quality of life Best wishes Jo .
All I can say is go for it. I was the same as you last year and the same age. Took me about six months to feel the full benefit and I've had no AF that I could feel since then and I was a very symptomatic sufferer for ten years before that. Good luck 😊
Yes, I will keep updating my procedures. Today going to have the PM checked up (which was put in on 28/7) and if all is good I expect to have the AV node ablation some days after
