In order to reduce blood pressure should every man have a shed?

Ben Fogle reckons that there has been a survey showing positive outcomes for men with sheds. Should sheds be available on the NHS?

😀. Absolutely understandable - a bolthole and a place which can be messy and immune from ‘tidying’.

My husband has a playroom full of ‘male’ goodies and it’s the first place any male visitors to the house find (and stay in). It has evolved over the decades from a corner in our London flat, to a shed to its present form.

Try your GP - you might get lucky!

Not a good idea for me lanc2, five years ago when I started my AF journey I was getting obsessive about taking blood pressure and one of our revered volunteers (not BobD) told me to lock the monitor in the garden shed and give my wife the key!!! 😂

Yes..

Sheds and a paid gym membership should be on the NHS.

This would save a boatload of money that the NHS could then use for the new very expensive drugs

An allotment with a shed would be better, and help with no-deal Brexit crisis as well?

Democracy is a scam ! Brexit is proof .

I've always thought that a couple having a lounge each (furnished to each persons liking) would be a good idea.

Separate bedrooms too.....😳

My OH has commandeered our shed and, apart from leaving a clear path to and from the door to the freezer, it's (to me) a mess but to him it's how he likes it and knows where to find anything. However, not sure about it helping his blood pressure as he's on two blood pressure meds in spite of having the shed!

I like your post though Ianc2 , a bit of fun to start the day and maybe generate a few interesting thoughts on the subject.

Well, heres a tale of how you might aquire a shed. I wanted a small summer house at thr end of our long garden.Husband and I looked around, quite expensive.Ill build you one he said. I drew a picture, cutout selected ones from magazines etc. Abour 5 ft square.

I was a litt!e concerned when he first put down a huge concrete base approx 10 ft by 12,and what we have subsequently ended up with a large workshop cum shed, nothing like I asked for but which he now has all his woodworking tools and rubbish in,as well as a chair and rug.....

Im not sure of the effect on his blood pressure but sure mine rises everytime I go to the bottom of the garden...

Seriously, sheds probably do help reduce stress!

AND I still have no summer house! Lol!

When we bought our present house it came with a garage, two sheds and a summerhouse. Now we have the equivalent of five sheds (ok I have the littlest one.....) It is doing my BP no good at all. As I have bought a flat to move into when I can get hubby to budge, I suggested that he should get an allotment nearby WHEN we move. He's got it already, very pleased because it came with ..............a shed!

or a different post code

Summed up for me many years ago by John Williamson singing called "All Australian Boys need a Shed"

Much the same for girls too I guess :-)

For anyone wanting a smile, theres a version on u-tube

Just so long as the shed doe not contain an engine dynamometer. Far too stressful a day testing engines,

The shed needs to contain a stocked fridge to be really effective at lowering blood pressure.

The Aussie idea of a man shed has arrived in the UK menssheds.org.uk/

As an old git in persistent AF who is not allowed to do as much as I used to do I have decided to open a man shed for like-minded people here peak-park-conservation-cent...

Then I can sit with others enjoy a cuppa and discuss which day or week we will mend the fence, cut the grass or chainsaw a few more logs for the fire.

The shed will have only one golden rule in its constitution – No mention or discussion about brexit!

That on its own will save the NHS millions on stress related pills.

Cheers

Yes but not just for men. My husband is not often up for just a chat but the minute I switch on the tv to watch what I want, pick up a book or my crochet or whatever then up he pops and interrupts my viewing, reading, counting.

I definitely could do with a craft shed, with maybe a kettle and little fridge, a few optics perhaps and my vinyls, record player and comfy chairs for me and some of my girly mates.

I visited Margarets River in Australia a few years ago and they had an amazing shed in the middle of the town, with an opening front. Inside they had an electricity supply, kettles, mugs, a fridge, a couple of wood lathes, an electric jig saw, a cut saw and an array of wood drills, saws and other paraphanalia along with a couple of characters who were sitting in armchairs, feet up on wooden footstools, watching the world go by

I was impressed and stopped for a chat. One of them stood up, grabbed a small lump of wood and said to my wife (she's a lot more attractive than I am) 'Would you like a wooden goblet'? and proceeded to make a tiny wooden goblet on a lathe. He was a very skilled individual and as he made the stem he created an unbroken ring of wood around it , forming a fascinating souvenir.

I can see the shed going the same way as the bathroom cabinet, or the wardrobe space... We had a whole cupboard each in the bathroom, but after initial incursions of the odd shampoo bottle in no time I was down to a couple of square inches for a deoderant. I foresee me sitting outside the shed, wrapped in an old duvet, forced out by bags of summer / winter clothes and storage boxes of books and 'spare' shoes and boots...

Our future flat (see above) has two bathrooms. My beloved cannot get over the 'waste of space' so I am assuming his bathroom will become a storage room 🙄

Every man should have a shed to escape to. Not only will it help his blood pressure, it will keep him out of the way of her indoors whose blood pressure will also benefit. Simples!
